One time early this half, we had a 3v5 and played into it.
We made a more concerted effort to get wide this half but we send in too many long crosses when we can dribble in and pretty much one player crashing the box instead of having runners at the near and far posts and down the middle.
Sips have adjusted and gotten wider on defense, but when we pass to our CB or holding MF they look wide on the opposite side when they have a gulf of empty space they can dribble into.

This match should be a good training tool.
Started 5 freshmen and 3 sophomores tonight. Bobby pretty much found 45 minutes for everyone, but was surprised to see the freshmen goalie play the full game. Starting defense is a freshmen goalie, 2 freshmen defenders and a sophomore defender, with a freshmen at holding mid. We didn't play Diaz or Buchanan in the second half and they didn't play their 2 stars (Macdonald and Villarreal). Knudsen was our injured player who was carted off...looks like she might been having issues with the heat. Starters:

I think we needed to lose that game. It was good practice for us and gave the team a chance to solve problems and figure out how to play together. I'm definitely excited about the potential going forward.
I think we did well overall. We were lacking in some areas, but we were able to recognize that and fix things later in the game. It's a pretty young team, and games like this are only going to help them develop and grow together.

Drive home should be the motivation to come out strong in non conference play! Time to pick up some wins!

I think the younger players getting a chance to play a sec opponent on the road was invaluable. Sec play is so much faster and more physical than any of the freshmen have seen before and seeing that early is important. We should consider playing an sec opponent on the road every year in exhibition games. That said, I don't take much comfort in figuring anything out in the second half if our starters and their starters weren't in there. #1 and #44 for them are game changers and having them sit in the second half decreased the pressure they were able to put on us by a huge multiple. Now the real games begin!
I have also heard we have an addition to our roster starting this week. A 23 year-old freshman midfielder from Finland who has apparently been playing professionally over there.

Does anyone have an update on our player carted off last night? It would certainly be "positive" news if it was just some issues with the heat and/or cramping. Fingers crossed for a speedy return to the field.
