With England not advancing to the finals, it guarantees that the World Cup will be won by a coach that is the same nationality as the team he coaches. No nation has won a World Cup with a foreign coach.

I thought Argentina was out of magic beans heading into the semifinals. I think they find a way to win again in the final. Not a big Argentina fan but it would be a hell of an exclamation point for the GOAT.

Though Messi seemed to be getting the majority of the accolades as the GOAT over the past few weeks, I felt Mbappe had a better World Cup run. That of course was till today. Messi's assists today were unreal.

The stats, and the results, suggest otherwise. M-bop might pad his stats in a meaningless match on Saturday but it doesn't matter, the GOAT has lead his team to the brink of another WC title. At 39 years old. In a sport with 11 men per side, I've never seen one player be such a massive difference-maker for his team.

I'm in the same boat. I've learned the hard way to stop diminishing what Messi is still capable of doing at his age and at this level. This really is the best matchup you could have hoped for with the two heavyweights going head to head. I'm a little concerned for Spain as I have seen rumors Yamal is sick/injured and hasn't practiced for several days but they are a deep team. So many interesting threads for this game.

Also - both Scaloni and de la Fuente were "meh" as club managers, but spent years in lower levels of their countries' national team system before taking the reigns.

I've brought it up before on this boardโ€ฆ the best national team coaches fit one of two molds:

1) Domestic coaches who won trophies at the highest levels of their country's league and their continent's club competitions. (Deschamps, Del Bosque, Lippi, Scolari)

2) Domestic coaches who were "meh" at the club level but then worked their way up through their country's national team system. (Scaloni, Loew)

Yet another reason why Dallas should have hosted it.

You'd have to find a stadium with similar capacity and a field still intact. Dallas has already started tearing up the grass. Maybe Atlanta?

I was thinking Miami since it's hosting the 3rd place game. Having the final be in that heat and humidity would be brutal though.

As a side note, I completely agree. It's insane that stadium was chosen for the final. LA or Dallas would've been much better climate wise not to mention those stadiums are significantly nicer too.

They chose NYC because it's more international and closer to Europe.
Metlife is the worst stadium out of all the US host sites.

LA isn't good eitherโ€ฆ SoFi Stadium lacks AC and relies on wind to move the air. So if there isn't enough, it turns into a giant greenhouse with that translucent roof.

I'm in Mexico City right now, and I really wish the final was here. I went to the Fan Fest to watch Wednesday's semifinal, and the whole experience blew the Houston Fan Fest out of the water.

The Zocalo was packed, and they had huge screens set up on every corner for about a four block radius around the square. Even though Mexico has been out of the tournament for a couple of weeks and hasn't hosted any games since then, there's still an incredible energy throughout the entire city.

Everything is decked out in World Cup decor, and people are still walking around in jerseys everywhere. Looking forward to heading back to the Zocalo for the final.

I hate Dallas, but it made the most sense. Has the best infrastructure, climate controlled, can max out capacity, and is central to all the games around North America that led to this.
