For the "soft" crowd, it's 100% a foul and dogso. But the way he's called this game it's soft. The rake on trossard. The multiple fouls to KDB with no cards. Thats the problem.

The red card could come into play in the group standings if there is a tie involving Belgium and goal differential is even, as "fair conduct" points are the next tiebreaker.

Belgium has to be hoping that the Kiwis don't get blown out by Egypt.

It was also a flop after a minimal tug. The ref was total crap the whole game which helped Iran a lot.

By the letter of the law it was the right call but you are right in the context of the poor officiating feels so soft.

I think of it more like momentum based, personaly. He moved first so has more momentum going towards the goal when the ball is played so he has gained that advantage by being offside. Its very close either way

Technically Iran had 2 offenses on that play. There is a new ish rule that the team taking a free kick cannot have a player within 1 yard of the defensive wall. Even if onsides that goal gets ruled out.

Do y'all have any thoughts on what to watch for in the Egypt/NZ matchup coming up? I definitely would like to see the All Whites advance in Group G but they seemed faily average against a feisty Iranian program in that 2-2 draw.
