I honestly thought you were kidding that you like Ggg.

Oh well.ill shut up on this topic.

Just ignore him. Today for the first time I used the ignore function for a poster. It's a bit, and it isn't that funny and it's run its course.
Damn. i"m agreeing with you. I must have caught up to you age. (I'm '94 too. )

It's not a bit. Gregg won multiple cups as our coach. I feel like y'all are taking crazy pills…

Edit: I sincerely apologize for ruining y'all's fun. I'll stop posting on this thread.

I hope I'm proven to be a fool. I hope this new coach is wildly successful…

Finally. (Maybe).

Part of me wonders if the delay is a bit contrived to deflect criticism for him not coaching this window. Seems to have taken a really long time.

Or maybe he'll be the first coach in history to have to wear a polo shirt full of sponsors.

I definitely think they're trying to give Poch (or any new manager) a soft landing by not making them manage the squad for these first two friendlies. When they announced that Vargas would coach the team this window, it didn't immediately make sense to me, but there's definitely something to being able to flush the results against a fired up Canada team (the manager really).

They've said for months regardless who they hire and when they hire him, they were going to have Vargas coach this cycle.

Yeah, we talked about it on page 10 of this thread. It's always been the plan to shield whomever was hired from having to jump right in and have the team possibly not look great in the Sept friendlies.

I get that, but by delaying, the narrative can shift away from it being "the plan" - instead, it's a necessary reality, as seen in this rare official tweet regarding the matter (which caused a lot of unnecessary hand-wringing). As far as I recall, all the stories about how Varas would serve no matter what were from the same folks that leaked the Poch news. We've seen nothing official about either… but now that it's late enough in the process, the official narrative becomes one that's a lot easier to justify.

If it weren't for BS from Chelsea, he would've been hired weeks ago.

Mikey Varas was a youth coach for FCDY just a few short years ago..... This is a SpaceX-type trajectory for him

And he completely failed the U20s in their championship game.

I wonder if he's ever been to Atlanta.

Hopefully he won't just be over here just for camps and competitions. I think ideally he'd spend at least half the year on this side of the pond, and most of that in ATL.

Will he qualify as an Alien of extraordinary ability?

Looks like USSF stepped up to the plate and ponied up the money (with generous help from billionaires and commercial partners)

Quote:

Pochettino signed a two-year contract, according to ESPN, which also reported that he will be paid $6 million per year - a pay cut from his previous job with Chelsea, but still enough to make him the highest-paid coach in USMNT history.

U.S. Soccer did not announce compensation figures. The Federation said Pochettino's hiring was supported by a leadership gift from Kenneth C. Griffin, the CEO of the hedge fund Citadel, and his philanthropic entity Griffin Catalyst, with additional support from Scott Goodwin, managing partner of the asset management firm Diameter Capital Partners, and USSF commercial partners.

Poch gets paid!

Dayum.

Not sure how he'll live on $6mm a year though. Might have to cut some costs.

Reportedly he was making something like $13M a year at Chelsea so yeah, guess he's going to have to tighten his belt.

Interesting that he's living in Barcelona; guess he's still very connected with Espanyol.

They screwed the pooch when they didn't give the job to Marsch. The US isn't going to attract a top level international manager in their prime. We had an opportunity to turn the reigns over to the best coach we've ever produced and the powers that be intentionally snubbed him. Now we are left scrambling to replace a coach that has demonstrated on numerous occasions that he isn't up to par.

USSF is full of trash. Nepotism, greed and stupidity. Need to clean out the entire organization, not just Greg.
This aged well.

shocking that it didnt take them longer?

You should be prepared for them to take 6-8 months to replace him.
Exactly 2 months. Well ahead of schedule!

Don't think they are adjusting her salary.

(Sources tell ESPN that Hayes' salary, however, will remain where it is, and not move in lock-step with Pochettino's.)

Is it just the playback or WTF is this clown show?
No music on the video.
Cut off the sound on both Cone and Crocker and Poch.

It's a US Soccer clown show. I was 30 minutes late so missed some of the technical difficulties. Telemundo's sound was great.

Apparently Tata Martino helped convince Poch to take the USMNT job. The same guy USSF passed over in favor of GGG in the first place.

Quote:

Pochettino also said that there were two key people that helped influence him to take the USMNT job - USWNT boss Emma Hayes and Inter Miami boss Tata Martino.
