Chances are far more remote than Klopp, in my book. He doesn't speak English, which is a dealbreaker l, I think. Even if he did, he's been out of work forever, so either he's happy being retired or he's incredibly picky.

I assume you're talking about Tuchel?

Now, I doubt he'd be interested in it, but IMO by far the best candidate for the job that is available, I think on several levels. A lot gets made about his relationship with Pulisic, for example, but my favorite part about like the big story that was in Pulisic's book about Tuchel and how he seemingly benched him on a whim for the return leg in the Champions League against Madrid, is that really it can be interpreted as a story about how Thomas Tuchel pushed Christian Pulisic's buttons so hard that when he did put him in the game, he set up the most critical goal of the whole Champions League winning campaign.

I don't like Tuchel, but you're right - he might be the kind of "bad cop" we need.

That said, I don't think there's any way USSF will pay for a top shelf coach.

I can't help but wonder if part of the delay in this hiring process has been waiting for the Olympics to end. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I still like Henry, and if he can get a Gold tomorrow, I'd like to think that more folks will jump on board too. I know idiots on Twitter think he's just riding his supreme talent, but that's a dumb argument IMO. Talent alone doesn't win tournaments; just look at France, England, Belgium, etc in the Euros and Brazil in Copa.

He would most certainly be a guy who takes zero BS from the players and doesn't coddle them, and especially for our forwards, could tell them exactly how he wants them to play and he'd have a ton of credibility doing so. The media is trying to pump up the play of Olise, and Henry tells them he's not even close to achieving what he's capable of. We need a guy like that who always pushes the players to do more.

He's probably my favorite "realistic" option - but I know I'm in a minority.

I think Henry is a likely candidate, especially given that I think he is actually someone who wants the job.

Please dear Lord, do not hire Tuchel. I absolutely hate him, hated him before Bayern, hated him at Bayern, and still hate the guy. He's rode the coattails of the Low, Klopp, Flick, etc. from the 2014 German World Cup run and Bundesliga clubs and is half the coach those guys are. He lucked into that Chelsea UCL and has left every club reeling after he left or was fired.

I wouldn't mind Henry although tactically I have no idea how he'd do. But from a respect and motivational standpoint I could see it.

Agreed…and I'd be ok with it, but only because he was one of my fave players ever and we know almost nothing about him as a manager ha. At least the players would have to respect his playing experience, unlike GGG

Henry just seems like a good dude and someone they'd respect.

You don't think players respected Gregg's experience as a player?!? That's nuts, scrow…

Athletic has a story indicating that Pochetino is the favorite, which would be awesome.

I wanted him at United, but since we have another year of Ten Hag I would love to see Poch with the US team.

If we're gonna swing for the fences and pay a ton, I hope it's him. Let England deal with Tuchel.

But this makes no sense to me:

Makes sense to me, would give him time to evaluate and meet with players without having to worry about scheme and tactics. I mean, who really cares about September friendlies?

And it lets the new guy avoid a potential loss to Jesse Marsch, which would be a press nightmare.

Ah, okay, that makes some more sense. I was assuming that meant the new guy wouldn't be around yet, but I guess it could just mean he's not managing those specific games.

I think Poch would be a pretty solid hire, especially in terms of how his established style in a lot of ways fits like a glove with the player pool, young players that in a lot of cases also fit his preferred tactical style.

Ultimately, though, I think all potential coaches are going to sink or swim by how well they take care of 3 things. Absolutely critical is finding a center forward. Its a hole in the tactic that may as well be crater. Second, fixing the set pieces, which needs to be a strength and not an afterthought. And third not sacrificing defensive concentration and intensity, whether that's tactical or finding different players.

Yuck. His inability to get them to stop them from just clearing the ball cost them the Concacaf championship.

I think the striker question will likely be better answered by tactics. I think we have good players on the roster, or good enough .

I was thinking Poch was the answer to jjxvi's question, almost posted his name. Tuchel would bomb here, IMO. I like the idea of a South American manager to get through the CONCACAF slogs but can play a technical match against European teams that don't play hack-a-thon style futbol.

That being said, we're talking about the USSF so I am fully prepared to be completely underwhelmed by whoever's relative is handed the job.

I used to be active on that thread but I'm no longer in the sneaker game so I rarely visit that thread.

But I do know all about your love for Avia high-tops.
