So most think this team gets smoked by Brazil Wednesday? Anyone think they bounce back with an improved performance?

Brazil is a tough matchup for us for sure. I do think we'll clean things up on the defensive end. (Jedi can't play that bad two games in a row, right?) Might be impossible for this group to shutout the Brazilians but I bet we see a more focused and intense showing.
there's a chance Colombia is really freaking good. Further, Brazil has been kind of a mess lately. Maybe usmnt isn't as bad we think and maybe Mexico is still more of a mess than they appeared last night.

But even if we get waxed by Brazil in Orlando, after two bad warmups vs two of the best in conmebol, we need to handle Bolivia and Panama and at least get out of the group stage this summer or greggg needs to get gone.

Colombia is a very very good team and has been playing well lately. Also, we teed them up for some easy chances yesterday with our poor defensive progressions.

So yeah, there's some takeaways from yesterday and then there's a whole bunch of overreactions.

They looked far better than they did the other day. France should have had a couple goals but the Canadien keeper had fantastic saves. Big result for Marsh.

Hope the Americans rebound in their second friendly like Canada and Mexico have.

The biggest problem with actually fixing any issues with this team is that after years of demanding this type of skilled continental European attacking prototypes to fill the whole team, it has largely actually been accomplished, but the team no longer has any strengths that can be relied upon. Team defense and commitment is bad. Set pieces are bad. Theres not an "anti-GGG" you could hire that would win big with these players, its honestly probably more a project suited to a Mourinho type that will find and demand 8 players play defense if necessary to win a particular game
You're absolutely right.

The things that used to characterize USMNT in the past are gone. We have better players, in many cases far better… but we have no identity. We used to win games by playing great defense and playing for set pieces and you're spot on that those are our weaknesses now.

It doesn't matter how many beautiful one-touch passes we can make to look like we're now a sophisticated team… we give up points far too easily and yet still also struggle to score despite having really talented players on that end of the pitch.

I think the hilarious part is that Berhalter is basically in lockstep with the fans on everything except the typical loony "this player should have been picked" which never goes away. The difference between us and the elite powers is largely that those teams will have a world class striker, or a world class central defender, and almost always will have somebody who is elite on set piece delivery.

However, we display very little compensation for the fact that we don't have those things, either tactically or through a more creative roster. Berhalters's biggest problem is that even if he were so inclined to play a more pragmatic game or pick a more pragmatic team, for him pragmatism largely means he has to pick all the European based players that the fans expect, IMO

I assume that the fact that its taking 20 minutes to get a post to go through means baseball aint going well…

I'm going to get blasted for this (but what else is new):

Throw money at Xavi. Probably won't hurt, but might help.

after all the rumors and alleged interviews of all those other coaches before, only to rehire the dude we had previously fired, I have to imagine USSF is broke and can't afford to throw money anyone. But if we're able to do it, let's get Klopp!

Didn't Klopp retire because he was tired of managing? That seems to be like A&M trying to hire Saban.

Xavi seems more like hiring Leech after getting fired from tech. He seems like someone who has more to prove. And a lot of those guys seem to like the United States. Messi got all his buddies to join him for a pay cut in Miami.

I'm not saying it's likely, but worth a shot if we got money.

Haha yeah. I'm being a bit facetious when I bring up klopp, but I'm serious when I speculate that we rehired Gregg because we're broke.

USSF is anything but broke.

Cheap? Yep.
Nepotistic as all get out? Yep

Broke? Oh hell no.

If we were serious about this sport, we would get a serious coach.

We aren't, so we have Greg.

Enjoy the rainbow jerseys.

how much money do they have? Why all those rumors of all those proven coaches interested and/or interviewing a year ago and then bring Gregg back? USSF lost a huge lawsuit by women's team players for equal pay and then rehired the guy they previously fired. Unless there was a guy who had club commitments and wanted to finish the 23-24 season so they rehired Gregg as an interim stopgap, what other explanation is there besides nepotism and stinginess, because I don't buy those as valid explanations for passing on good coaches to rehire Gregg. Make it make sense.

Gregg the Ggreat ggets the culture of USMNT. He was a bad ass player, and he's best suited to continue to lead our Nats forward.

And then there is his leadership style. Some silently lead by example, and some lead througgh inspirational ggimmicks, others don't have the rigght stuff, and can't lead at all.

Gregg leads by swaggger!, and that's what our team needs the most (swaggger, and a few more penalty kicks)…

Y'all complained about Gregg way back then just the same as now!

All he has done since I first heard this same chirping from the same chicken littles is:

Win a Ggold Cup
Win a Nations Leaugge title
Lead the USA to a WC round of 16

Unggrateful is what I'd call y'all…

He's definitely not nearly as bad as the white hot rage displayed on social media every single game. He does ok with a good but flawed team, a team with the kind of flaws most fans refuse to see or ignore.

Like it or not, the USMNT job is not that desirable for the big name coaches. Look what they were able to pull off in hiring Emma Hayes away from Chelsea.

maybe he's not the problem, but he's definitely a problem that can easily be fixed.

After this summer's tournament, US soccer has two years to get their **** in order.
