I played goalie and my daughter is currently a high school goalie.

I have noticed in the last several years goalies taking absolutely crazy risks like that. They are being coached to do that. The Spanish goalie got caught out today too but the German kid missed the shot.

I think they are nuts. If I played that far off my line my coach would have kicked me off the team.

If he is going to play out that far he needs to play the original clearance. He would have been first to it.
