Maile has been my favorite player to watch this season. Her effort never stops. So glad to see the result tonight. Really good effort, possession, and passes to close out the second half. If they're gonna get hot, now's the time to do it.

I will mention the big disappointment for tonight: No confetti. Can you imagine letting the whole team down like that?

Another strong finish. The team is developing a strong culture that reflects hard work and team work. They still lack a sufficient number of scorers but what they've got is working and improving with every game.

Hayes and Pante were fantastic. Caldwell and Colvin were strong. The central midfield play has been much more productive over the past three games. More aggressive and faster play. The young and less experienced players are contributing more and more with every game. We need Caroll in the lineup to add more fire power.

The back line continues to worry me but tonight was somewhat better. We were lucky to avoid a PK and the goal we gave up was a function of poor marking. The only Auburn player that could have been called for offsides (involved in play) wasn't offsides. Sample is a strong player and will be an asset as long as she is more disciplined going forward. Smith and Calzada were good tonight..

Jai Smith is better in the midfield than as a forward. McDonald is improving and works hard. That 70 yard run late in the second half was impressive. She needs to work on her touch in the off season. The Vanderbilt transfer is proving to be a valuable asset.

The next three games will be very revealing .

It was a game of two halves tonight. About 25 minutes in I was concerned because we were controlling possession mainly in our own defensive third and turning the ball over in the midfield. Only a few long balls forward and little attempt to get wide and attack the sidelines. Auburn was clearly robbed of a PK as Cornog continues to make poor fouls in the box, but it was offset on a missed offsides call which they scored on just minutes later. Hayes scored the the equalizer on another missed offsides call but she took it calmly which was nice to see.

The second half was some of the best soccer A&M has played this season. Lots of quality possession and attacking wide with Pante and Hayes combining for dangerous chances throughout the 45 minutes. Hayes is really coming on now as a true forward and scored the game winner when she received a pass forward and split the defenders to beat the GK. The difference is that she is becoming a smarter player on the field and is under control with purpose. If she is consistent in this approach, we finally found a reliable striker for the future. This was an important win because it gets us on the cut line for the SEC tournament with 2 very winnable games to close out the season. South Carolina will be tough on the road, but if we finish with 13 points we are in for sure and have a decent shot at the NCAA tourney as well. When combined with tonight, we might look back on that late Hayes winner at Ole Miss as the turning point in the season.

Hayes was definitely not offsides on her first goal. Check out the replay. Auburn's #0 chased Kate Colvin deep into the corner before Colvin crossed the ball to the middle. For some reason #0 lazily stayed down at the endline and for that reason Hayes was absolutely not offsides. It was a mistake that we took advantage of.

The entire play and following replays all start at the 30 second mark of this video. Check out the first replay they show if you are unsure. In this situation the announcer leads everyone astray by just looking at the ball in the middle not understanding where #0 is still.

The formation change in the 2nd half to a 3 backline and 2 holding mids opened up the whole possession game. Backline was more composed compared to the first half where we kept sending the long ball. By far the best half of soccer this season. Team is trending in the right direction for making the SEC tournament.

Saw Coach G at Burger Mojo earlier today! Looked to be in a good mood! I'm not sure whether it was from the burger or the offensive explosion his team displayed in the 2nd half

Chris Henderson of All White Kit had this twitter comment:

"inStat Top Rated

1. Maile Hayes (A&M)
2. Carolyn Calzada (A&M)
3. Mia Pante (A&M)
4. Quinn Cornog (A&M)
5. Carissa Boeckmann (A&M)

The Aggies roar back in the second half to net three huge points for their SEC Tournament hopes."

Not sure if it was noted in this thread earlier but Laney Carroll was not in uniform Friday. Hoping that Maile Hayes makes the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.

Watched the replay of the near foul in the box by Cornog with 17;40 left in the first half and the sequence started with a backwards pass by our right back that went more to the Auburn player than it did to Cornog, Very similar to the pass backwards by the same player which resulted in the tying PK by LSU.

I hadn't gone back to watch that previously.

Cornog was put in a very perilous situation. The first play she made was fantastic for the initial bailout. The second play we got lucky wasn't called a foul. Whew.

Does the girl in the middle who was offsides matter if she wasn't involved in the play? I don't claim to know the answer to this.

My friend said the girl who scored wasn't offsides. She ran by Leb after the ball was in the air.

And yes I saw the replay on the scoreboard here at the stadium. It shows the Auburn players behind us but it didn't show the play all the way back to the pass from a telling angle.
Late response, but there's a difference in being offside and being in an offside position. The two Auburn players were definitely in an offside position, but they were not interfering in play since the ball did not go in their direction. Thus, they are not considered as being offside.

The player that received the ball and scored was onside when the ball was kicked and the ball was played in her direction (obviously since she scored).

The ball did go into their direction and the keeper has to account for both of them

No such thing as passive offsides inside the 12

Oh yes there is. And there have been 3 interpretations of offside in the NCAA since July. The most recent was "defined" again just 2 weeks ago, after conference play had started. I can acknowledge there might be some confusion amongst referees. and if there's confusion amongst refs, then there's going to be confusion from fans since they're usually 3-4 parts separated from understanding the rules, let alone rule changes and interpretations.

But this offside decision for the AR is pretty simple. The AR would account for each player and the 2nd-last defender and all attacking players in the line of vision, especially the 2 that are offside. Then the AR would wait for the ball to be played by the next attacker or defender. The next person to play the ball was an attacker that was onside.

There were two attackers clearly in an offside position, but they both were outside of range to receive the ball. They were not interfering with the GK because they did not block the Keeper's view of the ball nor of the player receiving the ball. They did not interfere with a defender because the nearest defender was moving away from both offside players when the ball was kicked.

Also, any AR would use the top of the penalty area as a line of distinguishment. The attacker receiving the ball was outside of the penalty area and the 2nd to last defender was inside the penalty area when the ball was kicked.

With Florida and Kentucky playing to a draw Sunday it looks like one more win should get us in with 10 points.

Florida has 1 point with 3 games left (Bama, Vandy, A&M) Don't seem them winning the next 3 games to get to 10 points.

Kentucky has 1 point with 3 games left (Mizzou, Georgia, Ark) Don't see them winning the next 3 games to get to 10 points.

Could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

Very rarely does a team with an RPI 40 or better not get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Also, the NCAA is seeding 32 teams this year so a top 32 RPI means you will probably host the first round.

10 teams make the SEC tourney. Florida and Kentucky are 13 and 14 in the standing.

As of today, we are tied for 10th with Auburn and Missouri with 7 points. So, only one of the 3 teams tied for 10th would get in.

So, those teams are the direct competition for the last spot. As some teams win and lose, programs just above us in the standings like Ole Miss with 9 points and Georgia with 10 points may come into play as well as the slot they currently hold above the cut line for 10th place.

We have a very soft schedule to close out, so A&M controls their own destiny if they win out. And there are good odds even if they win 2/3.

Knocking Auburn off gave us the head to head there. And they should not win out because they play Tennessee and Alabama.

The game against Missouri, who we're currently tied with would give us the tiebreaker and ensure Missouri doesn't win out.

Ags play Florida, which is a gift to close out the season as they're the worst team in conference.

Wins against those two teams (and an Auburn loss to Alabama and/or the Vols), would guarantee a slot in the tournament regardless of what else happens.

However, A&M also has a game against South Carolina, who is no slouch. Win all three games and we're in regardless, but I think we have wiggle room with what's our toughest game left on the schedule.

Love our run for the SEC tournament AND the NCAA tournament.

For some clarity around potential ties for the 10th SEC tournament spot (PS could we make no. 6 with win out and bypass Day 1 of the SEC tournament?)

Seeding
The tournament will be seeded 1-10 regardless of division based on the point system implemented to determine regular season standings. If teams are tied, the following procedures, in order as follows, will be used to break the tie:

Two Team Tie
A. Head-to-head competition between the tied teams.
B. Points earned versus common opponents.
C. Goal differential versus common opponents.
D. Goals scored versus common opponents.
E. Won-Lost record of the two teams versus highest seeded common opponent and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary.
F. Goal differential versus highest seeded common opponent and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary.
G. Goals scored versus highest seeded common opponent and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary.
H. Coin flip by the Commissioner.

Three Team Tie (or more)
The following procedure will be used until the tie is broken. If at any time this tie breaker results in only two remaining tied teams, then the two-team tiebreaker will be used beginning with Subsection A in that procedure and continuing from that point:
A. If all teams have played one another, then most points earned in those matches only.
B. If all teams have not played, but one team has defeated all teams in the tie break, then that team breaks the tie and shall be placed highest. Remaining teams will continue with the tie break procedure.
C. If all teams have not played one another and a team does not have all wins over the tied teams, then use Subsection B in the two-team tie break procedures and continue through the two team tie-break procedures until ties between all teams are broken (except Subsection H will read "if three or more teams are still tied, the Commissioner will conduct a draw").

Congratulations to Maile Hayes for being named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. She certainly deserved it. I thought several weeks ago that she was the player other teams focused on because of how often she was getting knocked down. Every time she gets knocked down she is even more determined to score.
