I think it fills a gap, but there is also a big difference between playing MLS Next and within the systems developed by even the traditionally mid-tier programs like Newcastle, Lazio, Schalke, and so forthnot only physically but mentally.

Are any of those mid-tier programs going to take a chance on a 14-year-old as Man City did with Cavan Sullivan? Sure, some will become Josh Sargent, but most will be closer to Matthew Hoppe.

Here's another issue...

Not everyone has that ability to learn languages like this.

This isn't an "issue". this is how the rest of the world works. So many people around the world speak multiple languages and it's amazing. Only in the USA do we deride a person who speaks 7 other languages but doesn't speak English that well. MAD PROPS to Westin for making himself better along this soccer journey around the world.

Not everyone is multilingual. Even people living in other countries many years, they don't learn to speak mulitple languages. People in most countries are taught their native language and English from early. Most Americans start learning another language in middle or high school and never continue.

Messi still doesn't speak English.

I think Messi not speaking English (publicly) has more to do with his personality than ability. He definitely knows/understands it, and lots of teammates say he speaks it to them.

But your overall point is spot on, and the only reason many native Spanish speakers from the Americas "fit" in Europe is because of La Liga. I don't think language has anything to do with the reputation. If the USA enjoyed soccer as much as the the rest of the world, we'd be filling the ranks of the Premier League… actually, i take that back… if we were a soccer-is-our-favorite-sport country, then we'd have developed a real domestic league with pro/rel and it'd be the best in the world and they'd be trying to come play here.

LIke i said, many people don't have the ability to be multi-lingual.

Good thing Motta tried to force McKennie out of the club. Its not like he's their best midfielder this season or anything

In the original clip linked, I really liked his recognition of the space in front of him while his teammaters were combining outside.
So his decision to run into that gap instead of sitting back in defensive position triggers the whole goal chance.

Its the sort of thing, for some reason, we have just struggled as a team to do even though the players all do it for their club teams. Recognition of a play opportunity 2-3 passes before it occurs, movement off the ball giving your teammates options for passes. and sometimes moving off the ball also shifts the defense around and opens up plays for other players. We were just too stagnant too often under Berhalter

What an amazing athlete and player. Dude is my favorite USMNT player by far, and as a guy who correct me if I'm wrong never even lived on US soil is totally bought in.

Totally bought in. Sings the National Anthem. Celebrates Thanksgiving with Matt Turner.

And while he chose to play for US, he would be starting for England right now if he had chosen differently.

Venezia almost pools out the miracle victory but has to settle for a point after a cheap PK for a handball in the penalty area in stoppage time.
All three were good not great.

Celtic win the League cup over Rangers on penalties after a 3-3 match with CCV and Trusty starting at CB. CCV was very strong including stopping the 4v1 in the tweet below. Trusty was good in defense but left a bit to be desired in build up. He was pulled at the half for a CB that is shakier defensively, but more aggressive passing (Celtic were down 1-0 at the half after creating very little in the first half).

I watched a little of Tyler Adams yesterday. He didn't look great in the bit that I saw. He subbed on around the 66'. Every ball he played was backwards. And, then there was the handball in the box. Bad luck on that one really, but it happened and he did it. Hope this was just an off game and he returns to form.

Nope. He's done. He'll always play poorly.

Just kidding. Everyone has a bad day. And he's never really subbed that much in his life. It's a different skillset that takes time to learn.
