A record 9 Americans played in the Champions league in the same day, including the debut of 18 year old Cole Campbell in the Champions league. Hopefully his Dortmund career is more like Christian's.

The rapid improvement of Pulisic's corners is insane.

His lack of quality corners was highly exagerated. He hit a few not good ones, but overall they were good. Not as good and consistent as he'd doing now. He almost had another assist on a corner that hit the post.

That pitch though...looks better than fake grass.

He's been much much better for his clubs than he has for USMNT… my (probably bad) take is that it's similar to the overall problems we see in final third. Guys don't know where they ought to be so we get a lot of crosses to thin air. And/or it could be that Ggg never spent much time on set pieces so CP never really knew where he was supposed to be aiming.

It was not exaggerated at all, he was abysmal at them until recently. He has obviously made it a point of emphasis, and he is whipping them in on the regular now. Theres nothing wrong with a young player improving their game, and it should be celebrated instead of pretending it wasnt an issue

I think if you were to go back and watch them again, some were good. Some were bad.

The fact the USMNT did nothing with them colored his good ones after a bad one.

But abysmal all the time is just bias.

Yup, I wouldn't say he was completely awful before but he wasn't getting assists off corners weekly.

I wouldn't exactly call him young anymore, but to another point you've made in the past… CP has become a key player for Milan; they rely on him more than any team he's played for… and he's perhaps even approaching the point of becoming "the guy" for them. A lot of growth can happen when you're given responsibilities and people rely on you. He's thriving in Milan and it's great to see.

Whether he was bad at it or not is moot now. He's really good at it now.

Think Poch will call him up?

Since Cole is on the U20 team, he probably won't get the call up.

His last two games against Miami are shades of Timmy vs Belgium.

He may be the most in form, but will he be at 42 at the WC?

Sounds like Poch is wanting players who want to play for the USA and not a way to play in the World Cup.

Thoughts?

I'm not totally against that. I feel like we've seen A LOT of guys try this, take minutes and opportunity away from someone else, and then just vanish and disappear

roster too many dual nationals: people complain because they don't "want" it bad enough

roster too many homegrown/MLS players: people complain because they aren't talented enough

It is a fine balance. That's why guys like Antonee Robinson are so special, a dual national who plays his tail off and has really integrated into the team.

just need to keep development going in our youth systems at MLS Next & boys ECNL so we keep getting MLS kids sent to Europe. Kids like Aaronson, Sargent, Pulisic, McKinney, Adams, etc. are the sweet spot where they're developing the requisite talent and they want to rep the stars & stripes deep down in their bones.

I'm not convinced we have the right pathways set up in our youth system - at least it's still not ideal. There are a lot of issues still with it. Now we're about 5 removed from USSF getting rid of the DA and relying on MLS for youth development so we should start to see if there's a fall off in the overall talent and depth in the player pool. MLS and USSF need to keep making in-roads with the popularity of the sport for youth athletes as well.

we do seem past the days of half our roster being dual nat Germans who exist because their father had a brief stint at a military base over there and we can be more selective when there's a really talented dual nat like Balogan who can integrate into the squad and upgrade the talent.

And I'm sure Jedi really wanted to be a part of the team.

Robinson is always fully engaged in singing the national anthem before each and every game. He's fully bought in.

Late to the discussion here… I can't remember which Kickin It episode it was, but they were joking about how flabbergasted Tim Chandler was the first time he played at some CONCACAF dump. He refused to get called up the next time. And I think that's common. I suspect it's why we don't see Bundesliga starters like Pefok and Maloney anymore.

Tyler Adams has spoken about how when his teammates at Leipzig would give him **** for playing Grenada or whoever while they were playing France, he flat out told them that it's harder to travel across the world and play in those dumps.

There's nothing inherently wrong with dual-nats, but if you don't have the extra incentive of pride in your country, then you're not gonna put up with the BS of CONCACAF. And if you're not gonna put up with that, you don't deserve to come play in a WC IMO.

I don't agree with Donovan about much, but I think his take on dual-nats was spot on. If a guy isn't going to spend any time in the US when their time on USMNT is done… they probably shouldn't have ever been on the team. You have to have some level of pride in that part of your nationality. He didn't drop any names from his playing days (and did mention that Jermaine Jones was NOT one of these types), but he made it clear that there were dual-nats whose apathy affected the whole team.
