I think a couple of these players could really benefit from a good showing this tournament.

Nice win today. France should be down 1 to Guinea…very close call on VAR stripped a goal. Just need to beat Guinea on Tuesday and we should be through to the quarters after that first game scare

Really think Tolkien can be Jedi's backup on the MNT.

Methinks Tessmann prolly making himself some money with his performances in the Olympics (pre-tourney games and actual games). He's captaining the squad and really commanding the middle. His passing range has been stellar. He made several passes across the field right onto the foot of a teammate that have been amazing.

He really should've been on the senior team this summer. He was the highest rated player on his Serie B Venezia team last season. Will love to see how he plays in Serie A.
on the big team in the Copa just sitting there waiting for GGG to NOT play him? I think he's doing just fine at the Olympics. Tessmann has taken a smart pathway so far and he's put himself in positions to be successful. Cheers to him to being at the Olympics where he's team captain and playing 90' and didn't get picked for the Copa roster.

He probably should've played....but...
it's great experience playing in the olympics.

I'm not Tessman would've benefitted from sitting on the bench at Copa. Would you have played Tessman over Cardoso, given how Cardoso played once he got to La Liga?

And at the end of the day, it wouldn't have made a difference in Copa.

I'm not sure if he'd play over anyone, but we need to stop thinking that XYZ player plays well here and therefore will fit with the rest of the team.

We need to look at lineups holistically and just atomistic.

Hoping our new guy will do that.

I'm not sure too many nice guys are our problem.

I think we have too many guys used to playing in Europe and US and not familiar with the ****housery of central and south American players and referees.

Speaking of Tessman.

https://m.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/fiorentina-su-tessmann-c-e-l-accordo-con-venezia-e-calciatore-pendono-le-commissioni-1995576

TLDR: deal with Fiorentina almost done. 5.5mm euros to Venezia and a 5 year deal 1.2mm euros per for Tessman.

Considering Tyler Adams was coming off a major hamstring injury and on a minutes restriction for each game of the tournament, it might've been more beneficial to have Tessmann there instead of Adams altogether. And Tessman is familiar with the other FCD guys at minimum so there's nothing lost in midfield with McKennie.

but I'm still saying being there with GGG does little for him. Starting and captaining the Olympic squad is much better

Serie B is unquestionably worse quality than MLS.

Literally every midfielder we brought plays at a higher level for their club (when they're not getting fat in the offseason).

If he lights up Serie A then it's a different discussion…

Tessmann hardly overlapped McKennie and had only a year overlap with Richards at FC Dallas, back in 2017. There is no familiarity to speak of outside the few callups to MNT. Cardoso, De La Torre and even Gio has more familiarity with McKennie, Musah and Adams than Tessman.

We also knew he wasn't playing for them because he hasn't been on the roster for friendless. Hell, he didn't even play in the intra squad senior team versus youth team.

But that does shut the door.

He was their 5th rated player according to FotMob.

He is until he isn't. They said this last year and then he started 29 games for them in the league. He has 1 year left on his deal so a lot of teams aren't going to pay a ton for him when they can get him for free in 12 months. While the obvious incentive is to find a new club that you can actually play at, you can also get paid a ****load of money just to show up to training everyday. Pretty cush life for Weston for a year.

Motta has told several players they are out of the picture which leaves them with a pretty thin squad. Only takes an injury or two before he has to play some of the guys he's saying are out.

Very bizarre considering the great season he had for them last season. And devaluing a player you want to sell makes no sense to me.

Is he still with his Italian gf? If so, we need pics to help prove why he'd be more than happy to just hangout and draw a salary.

But jokes aside, I think he shot himself in the foot by showing up for Copa out of shape and not performing well. The deal with Aston Villa fell through because they couldn't meet his salary demands, so they clearly don't rate him either.

Back in the Spring, it seemed crazy that Juve was low-balling his extension offer given his on field form… but now… it honestly doesn't seem that crazy to me. I don't want to baselessly slander him, so I'll leave it vague and say there's more to being a player on a team than just performing on the field, and I suspect that off-field Weston is too much of a problem. Again, I don't know anything for sure, but it's not hard to imagine.

Yeah, you're probably right. Old man Reams coaching with a potential shot at taking the USMNT reigns would be sweet! Follow in the footsteps of Gregg the Ggreat and Da Bruce!

Edit: Gregg and Bruce being former USMNT players…

HIs podcast was really good. His cohost was generic sports guy, but he was really good. They just stopped around Christmas.

He will definitely be a commentator if he wants to.

Just because they didn't play on the same youth team doesn't mean they aren't familiar with each other. They are VERY familiar. The system allows for it as they train together and tend to come back "home' at the same time. There are many connections in the FCD youth system too. Not relenting that they can stay connected via all kinds of socials and group chats and even the standing FIFA matches on PS5 they have.
