I actually knew Paul Murray, mentioned in the article. He was talking about doing this for a while before it happened.

I actually remember a friend and I were eating lunch with him and he was telling us all about it (I want to say it was about a month before it happened). We were just like "Uh, huh, sure Paul, whatever...."

Dogs love whomever there with. It's very similar to the song, "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

Wasn't this dog a puppy (or about half grown) that was going to be (or already was) a replacement for the old Rev? If so, that explains how this t-sip was able to grab her. A full grown Rev would have ripped his throat out......well...or at least barked him to death.

Dough you don't believe me you can stop by cushing library some time or talk to E-2 Rebels who were there during the whole thing. I have done both. Why? Becasue I'm in E-2 and have access to both the former Rebels and the Rev files in cushing library. so yes i honestly believe this.

My wife went to Baylor and all this talk of mascots reminded me of a story an old Baylor alum told me. Baylor brings its bear to the games and it sits in the end zone. In the 80's their mascot was an older male that spent most of his time sleeping at the games. Apparently, at a Baylor/SMU game, the bear was sleeping and SMU pranced its pony nearby. As the pony was passing by, the bear woke up and ripped a chunk out of the pony with its claws. I hear it caused a bit of a commotion.

Hey rdi, I'm not gonna get into a pissin' match with you over this so I'll just say this. I was in E-1 when it happened. I'm classmates with Jim. I haven't spoken with him in a few years but suffice it to say we're not strangers. I also grew up with and remained friends with JH '95 who was the mascot corporal the year before Jim and who had a little to do with punitive punishment of his successor. So you can make out of that what you will regarding my comments on whatever measures were taken regarding the loss of Rev.
Now, regarding her recovery. I've heard your version of the story too, but it's a 'good bull' version. What do you think makes more sense? This guy called 911 and the cops recovered Rev or that this guy called to brag to some radio station, revealing the location of the pup which then creates a furious scamble to the lake on a late December morning and a group of Aggie students (or Aggie family, depending on which version of the story you choose to believe) luckily get there before anyone else?

Now the thing that I call livin' is just bein' satisfied with knowin' I got no one else to blame

I know I didn't. It would not upset me in the least if someone did, though. It wasn't enough for this punk to just carry out this BS, now he wants the public notoriety to go with it.

You might be taking this a little too seriously.

Come on Dough, there is no way you could possibly know more than some current rebel who was in short-pants when the whole thing went down.

That particular Rev was on medication for epilepsy. The weird thing about that story is that he never mentions that both Revs (retiring one and the puppy) were at Lively's home that weekend. He could actually have stolen two at once.

Didn't some guy get kicked out of tu a couple of years later for running for SBP on the platform that he'd been the one to steal her?

Also, in the article that came out in the Texan at the time (I still have it around here somewhere), the "unidentified thief" claimed that a group of them had been "staking out" Lively's parent's house for several week.

Ahh it serves E-2 right for stealing the dog from the band in the first place. What's worse, they replaced the mutt with a Collie.

A&M did NOT steal the Baylor bear the time it expired - another of our SWC friends has that dubious distinction...

I can't believe no one's commented yet on how much that Neil dude looks like a hippie and now Jim Lively's like a captain in the Marines. Seems apropos.

I thought I remembered the part about them both being there from reading the papers at the time..but if no-one else remembers that, maybe I dreamt it... I have the Batt and the Statesman around here somewhere. I'll have to look. They might still be packed - I just moved.

Hi guys.

Loved reading everything. Just come on by, I'll give you a beer and we can sit and chat. (I'm serious.)

While I was a student, UT and A&M joined the Big 12. There is one Big 12 mascot that has never been stolen.

I even enrolled there one summer and lived on-campus. I found where she was. But I couldn't figure out a way to get a buffalo back to Texas alive.

If anybody can do that, you have my sincerest admiration.

FossilAg, that was Red Cashion who helped steal the bear. The NFL referee famous for his "first dowwwwwnnnnn".

I heard him tell the story on the Ticket. He said they had their choice of the big bear or little bear. They took the little one.

He said they made it to I think Hearne before the bear about destroyed the inside of their car and ripped them to shreds. They were just thanking God they hadn't taken the big one. He said they called Baylor to tell them where to come pick there **** bear!

***************

And I was at the Cotton Bowl when they announced she had been found and then showed her on the screen. That was probably the loudest cheer of the game.

And if he thinks there were only 20000 people ready to put the hurt on him, that just shows what kind of sip education he received ...

Ya' know Neil (if that's really you), the
statute of limitations has passed on jail time but unfortunately for you that doesn't apply to "Crappy" things happening to you in the near future. You probably should've kept quiet about it if you plan on living in the state of Texas for the next 20-30 years or so...sucks to be you...this is pretty hilarious actually.
