I'm sure they are very nice people, and I don't really care what happens to their animals, or how they are cared for, personally. The point I am making is Neil Andrew Sheffield took it upon himself to open up a huge can of worms. It's much easier to take good care of a little puppy than a massive steer, and much more likely that something could happen to said steer. Remember that when something happens to bevo and ask yourself if that would have been much less likely to occur had Neil Andrew Sheffield acted differently.

Probably the most significant thing this guy will have accomplished in his otherwise meaningless life. Let him enjoy his "15 minutes."

Bad bull. I hope something bad happens to that guy. It would be different if he had pulled this crap in the 50's, 60's, or early 70's. In the 70's a pact was made that this kind of stuff would not happen again, but one self centered teasipper had to have his way.

A can of worms was opened by this guy. I'm actually quite surprised nothing has happened to bevo since then. When it does happen, and it will in time, the sips can thank Mr 'I think I'll take things into my own hands' for it.

He's going to regret coming out with this story.

Wow.

I am pretty confident in guessing he wasn't a signatory on this "pact". I know I wasn't in 1993, when several of us in my dorm plotted to kidnap BEVO again.

Everybody with your attitude needs to get over it. It was a college prank, and no permanent damage was done to anybody or anything.
AlexNguyen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
83, you're wrong about that. Any crimes anyone commits in the future will be because they decide to, not because Mr. Sheffield did anything 14 years ago. No matter what the linkage is in your mind, the law doesn't provide for a 'revenge' clause. I'm sure a prosecutor would have a field day with your argument.

I already said kidnapping a mascot for fun was probably a harmless prank. Unfortunately you seem to be interjecting a more sinister outcome when talking about a return favor on Bevo, and frankly I'm disturbed.

we don't need to kidnap bevo,

we need to come up with a creative way of paying back this stupid ass sip. he is taking liberties and credit for this affront.

he thinks he can take the credit with impunity

Real life doesn't revolve around revenge clauses in courts of law, and Alex Nguyen, if you are disturebd by my observation that some kids will take retaliatory action, I suggest you are a person who is easily disturbed.

The last time a mascot was stolen before this was in the 70's when some Ags stole the Baylor Bear. It died, and as a result a pact was made so that somebody who thinks it's 'all in fun' doesn't step over the line and do some damage like that again. Your little mister teasip stepped over that line when he decided it was his divine right to show A&M they aren't God's gift to the world, to use his words.

Just because you don't think retaliation is justified or right by any means doesn't mean some college kid won't pull something stupid in the name of being 'all in fun' as you put it.

This isn't about what's in my mind, it's about the actions some punk took. Oh, right, it was 'all in fun'.

Did I miss something? It's not like he drugged/beat Reveille, threw her in a sack and dropped her in Travis lake. He whistled to her till she got in his car, and it sounds like he took good care of her. Chill out.

Personally, I miss this kind of good bull! It was one of the things that made the SWC so great.

No harm, no foul.

I mean, it's not like he sawed down a 100 year old "spirit tree" or anything!

I don't think those guys in the 70's planned to kill a bear. Leave the mascots alone and stuff like that doesn't happen.

The harm here is in the future somebody uses this as justification to do it again and things get out of hand.

The bigger question is why Lively's dad kicked Rev?

I know the reporter that did the orignal story. I thought he kidnapped her because he knew all the details.

I im'd him with this one, and he said that he can't believe this guy is coming out now.

I really hope some of you morons are kidding about doing something to this guy...

I know I didn't. It would not upset me in the least if someone did, though. It wasn't enough for this punk to just carry out this BS, now he wants the public notoriety to go with it.

Some of you who were around in the early 50s may recognize this store at North Gate as Judson E. Loupot's original Bookstore. You younger scamps may know the location now as the Dixie Chicken.

You may recognize the trailer in front of the store by the sign on the side of it ... BEVO. And if you have good eyes, you may get a glimpse of its occupant ... BEVO, himself.

Back in those days when mascots from around the SWC mysteriously wound up in Aggieland, all eventually ended up at Ol' Army Lou's bookstore or on his turkey farm for reclaiming by their rightful owner.

BEVO made the trip to and from Austin uneventfully.

The bear cubs from Baylor were a different matter, completely renovating the interior of back seat of the car that transported them from Waco to Lou's farm ... and performing some physical modifications to three Fish who started the trip in the back seat with the bears. (Baylor had to provide its own means for transporting the bears back home.)

I've seen the mascot corporal smack her on the nose in the parking garage, which made me chuckle... you have to admit she's annoying pretty much anywhere except football games.

BAD Bull. I remember it well. Rev was a young dog at the time, easily frightened. To be removed from everyone she knew and put among strangers and then to be left tied at the edge of the road had to be frightening. I always thought it might have been the trauma that led to her sensitivity for the rest of her time as the mascot.

Cows don't have high emotional bonds to keepers, so borrowing Bevo as long as he is not hurt is not going to do emotional stress.

Taking a pup away from its home can scare it to bits. Dogs LOVE their people.

I have heard so many versions of this story during my time in E-2. No the school didn't punish Lively, but I am sure some of the upper classmen had some fun with him.

We had some sophs my fish year get in trouble for taking Brasso and trying to put 13-0 in some bronze longhorn on the UT campus. The funny thing was that they were dressed up in full BDU's and Black Face Paint like it was FOW. I wonder if looking like that would get a little attention while in Austin.

I haven't heard of anything Red A$$ / Dumb A$$ going on with UT & A&M lately.

All this stuff is pure fun. Stealing mascots, etc. is part of hte rivalry. I do remember this story. I seem to recall some sort of press conference that A&M held to announce her disappearance too.

I don't have a problem except (sigh) for what 3rd G said, she was a pup, I bet it was a little hard on her.

Now that I'm a dog owner, I think about cr*p like that.....

Don't get me wrong, I was ticked when it happened, but at one time stuff like this was a harmless prank, now it's a felony.

Kind of sad.
rebelAg02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, it is all part of being a dumb college kid who hates your rival. Stealing the Baylor Bear would be the oddest and probalby most dangerous. Ha ha. Baylor wins at something. Most likely to claw you mascot.

No Ag's should be getting to mad over that. Seriously, it isn't like we haven't done stuff like that to them. As long as the animal is treated well & nobody gets seriously hurt, then it's all in good bull.

Reville has sucked ever since we went to the Collie for the breed standard. Rudders dog "Ranger" would have made a much better mascot.

Every one of us in D-2 laughed our arses off after that one.

Umm ... how would you know that rev 3 sucked. She was the first collie and she was around in from 1966 to 1975. If you were class of 98 I'm guessing that you weren't born until 1975 or later.

Actually the whole event was kinda serious. Rev VI was just a puppy at the time and if memory serves me correctly she was on some sort of medication when she was taken. The schools administration let that fact be known through a press release. After that, whoever took her tied her up to a mile marker up in North Austin on a road called 2222. They announced over the radio were she was and an older Aggie couple driving in the area picked her up.

I remember talking to some of the guys who were upperclassmen in E-2 when she was stolen and a few but not many were pissed at the Mascot Corporal. They didn't do anything about it because nothing needed to be done. From then on he would be the guy that had Rev stolen on his watch...thats punishment enough. I for one don't blame the guy. If even half of the story is true and the group that stole Rev went to the great lengths that they went to, then they were going to get her one way or the other. It just sucks that it happened on his watch. In the end, stealing mascots was all in good fun, as long as no one or the animals got hurt.

As a side note, I think its funny that guys in D-2 are so preoccupied with hating Rev that they don't bother to do any research. I think they have the worst case of pp envy in Corps history.
