Buck: When I was in school (at LC, then Springs when it opened) 6 of the 7 board members were from copperfield. They made sure that they would have their own private rich school while schools like Springs and now Ridge get almost nothing but low income housing. I lived in an upper middle class neighborhood and had to drive past Langham every day to get to springs. Springs was nice when I went but now the fields that surrounded it all have low-income houses and trailers, and the school is about 20% over capacity. Makes me sad that I can't even take pride in my alma mater because some snob didn't want his little darling to go to school with minorities.

Played on Pennington Field, and it was always pretty loud.

Some good stadiums I remember playing in were Duncanville and the Gopher Bowl (coming down the concrete ramp in cleats was interesting)

FYI - Cy-Fair ISD always holds their bond elections on days that nothing else is on the ballot. Also, being out in NW Harris County the local media acts like it doesn't exist. Hence, the turnout for the bond elections is tiny - just as the people making the proposals want it to be.

I certainly think Cy-Fair needs a lot of the things it is getting. However, the perks, bells, and whistles added to every project could be removed and cut off probably 40% of everything they do.

There is no watchdog over Cy-Fair ISD and they know it.

Bryan High has a nice, classic satdium. It also has real grass which was rated as the #1 Grass field in the Nation. Students who help with kyle field come and maintain it.

Anyone have a picture of "the rock" in sommerville? thats always been a cool looking small town stadium. looks kinda like the alamo. I believe Camerons satdium looks the same.

Midland is easily the nicest I have seen. Ratliff Stadium in Odessa is still pretty nice, but not the palace it was once considered when it was first built. I like the stadium in Andrews. I will give some props to LewP and say that I like the "Mustang Bowl" in Sweetwater as well .

Wildcat Stadium in Portland. It was built in the 60's and when Calalle and Carroll make the trip over, 8,000 pack in for some great 4A action. It is not the nicest but it has many fond memories. From 1969 to 1981, 12 straight District Championships. From 1969 to 1988, only 3 ditrict losses. Coach Akins ran one of the best programs in Texas(65'-87').

Gonzo, almost 95% of our kids come from Texas HS's. I like to know where our recruits come from. Besides, its the offseason, if we only talked about A&M Football here, it'd be all speculation and Bull****... this takes the mind off the pain from having to wait for 30+ days until fall camp.

When you look back at the evolution of the Texas high school football stadium, one that should not be overlooked is Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium. Built in 1970, it was the first school owned stadium to have an artificial turf field. A lot of the stadiums that were built later in the '70s and '80s look an awful lot like Memorial.

Midland has the nicest one I have seen....atmosphere is sweet! Even their old field, memorial field, is getting turf put in as we speak to make one nice practice field, even better then alot of game fields showed here on this page, i'll try and get pics, here is a look at permian's Ratliff staduim, which just got a new scoreboard a year ago..

Anyone have some pictures of Austin Westlake's stadium? I know it was pretty amazing back when I played there, but haven't seen pictures since they updated it.

Just because of where it's set up and how there's absolutely nothing around it, Ratliff is still very intimidating

Interesting note about the Mustang Bowl in Andrews (that's west Texas for those that don't know). Andrews was one of the wealthiest towns in Texas at one time. In the late-70's they seriously considered doming the stadium. I'm not talking about pipe dreaming, I mean they really looked into it and thought about doing it.

It was the first school district to have A/C in all of it's campuses and when they built the Mustang Bowl, I think it was one of the largest in Texas. They have always played at 4A or 3A, I believe.

The Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville is a classic.

I also was impressed with the stadium in Groesbeck as mentioned earlier by another poster.

I am suprised nobody said anything about "The Rig", Pearland could be very scary when you look at the size of the home crowd vs. the visitor's crowd. If any of you can post pics, that would be a neat one to post.

Also have to go with The Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville. In a world of cookie-cutter designs, the brownstone work from the 30's stands out as a classic.

There is certainly a place for the flashy palaces in other places, but I think the retro-feel of this place is a great environment.

Hard to beat Ratliff, it's like the Notre Dame stadium of high schools. Austin Westlake's is decently sized
but I don't like that they still have astroturf. I always though that for a high school of small size and not much money that my school had a decent stadium.
It's also hard to beat the view of the sun disappearing over the hills across from the home side.

Our field is also the "Nebraska Grass" which made it alot nicer.

I played at the Austin Westlake stadium back in 97 or 98. It had to be one of the worst fields I have played on with a really bad hump that was off centered in the middle of field. I know all fields have them for drainage but theirs was really bad. But the saddest thing had to be the goal post weren’t even straight. I guess I would expect a lot more for a school that was know for football in the 90’s.

jread,
We give every ounce of money for sports to other schools. EANES is one of the top three districts hit by Robin Hood, #1 on a per school basis. I remember having to pay $100 for every sport and every extra-curricular activity I wanted to be in, my younger sister didn't get art or music in elementary or middle school b/c they had to cut it. Robin Hood is a crock.

With out going on to much of a rant, I grew up in an extremely poor school that did receive Robin Hood. I have a feeling that most of the problems related to your budgeting and not just on the state stealing everything from you. I am very sorry that your sister didn’t get to play with art supplies or bang on any drums. But I promise that we didn’t steal them from you. We used the money to play for utilities. The only real extracurriculars were the few main sports. All were almost completely funded through sales of football tickets. We even had numerous state track athletes even though we did not even have a track. Just to practice on a track we had to drive 25 miles to the next town.

But to get back to your point I’m sorry I put you into a huge disposition. Look me up when I graduate and have money. I will pay you back your $100. That way your son can play football or basketball like I could. Unless he would rather wrestle, swim, play soccer or maybe even lacrosse like you had a chance to.

I plan to go watch a game at Ratliff stadium this season. Too bad the Mojo magic is gone. It will be tough for them to ever be as dominant as they once were. The stadium does still look intimidating.
