The "Headless Horsemen" of Sleepy Hollow high school in NY.

I'll have to go with the Lewisville or Farmersville Fighting Farmers, I believe they are the only 2 highschools in the country with that nickname. At least they were when I read the Lewisville High knock off of Friday Night Lights, call Friday Night Farmers (i think).

I've always favored the Itasca Wampus Cats. However, IMO, the worst name, hands down is the Graham Steers--I mean, who wants to be a nutless bovine. And no, they don't call the girls team the Heifers, they call them the "Lady Blues." I've always wondered what they call the girls teams in Bridgeport--the boys are the Bulls.

They beat me to it - but Banana Slugs is my favorite.

I believe the Woodlands High School was originally known as McCullough High School and the Highlanders mascot was a play off of the Scotish surname of the the schools namesake.

just looked at texasmascots.com and there are 94 Texas high schools with the bulldog as thier mascot and 117 eagles. Wow.

You are correct. School was originally Conroe McCollough (sp) and changed in the mid 90's to the Woodlands High School

For originality, you've gotta love the Itasca Wampus Cats, Hutto Hippos, Progreso Red Ants, Cuero Gobblers, and I'm surprised no one mentioned the Grandview Zebras or the Knippa Rockcrushers. The Hamlin Pied Pipers and Winters Blizzards probably deserve something too, but as long-time nemesises of the Stamford Bulldogs, they get no credit whatsoever.

I, however, for my favorites, vote for the Lewisville Fightin' Farmers and Flower Mound Marcus Marauders (my dad taught at both back in Old Army days), Munday Moguls (family hometown and my original residence), Sundown Roughnecks, and the Boys Ranch Roughriders.

On the bovine subject, Big Spring, Bronte, Robert Lee, and Rochester in West Texas go by the Steers and most if not all go by the Lady Steers, which of course is brilliant. But I guess it's better than the Heifers.
