I wonder if he decided this on his own, or if Tech pressured him to hit the road?
Pressure from Tech, no question. Sorsby can enjoin the NCAA for a time. But Tech can't enjoin its conference, every other conference, every school it has on its schedule, and everyone on the playoff committee. Eventually, they were going to suffer the consequences for propping up an admitted gambler, not to even mention the PR hit they've already taken and would take all season long.
Now they're going to be like "haha just kidding guys, we hate gamblers too. We would never let one play for us lol. The integrity of the game lol. Everything's cool now, right?"
They are actually playing the "we just want to help a kid out" and "we were put into a bad spot" cards. It wasn't working.
Opposing fans want to put them in the "they will do anything to win" camp.
But I think the truth will be that this is the result of $$$ and how it corrupts. Their big donor paid the $$$ to win the Sorsby race. So when this came out, Tech wasn't calling the shots. If the donor wanted to fight it, Tech couldn't afford to alienate him so they stood their ground.
I hate to say it but it could happen to us, to anybody.
We wanted Tech to do the right thing, and there is a good chance voices at Tech wanted to, too. But schools are not in charge of their own programs anymore. Been true for coaching searches for a while. Now it's true for roster management.
