I believe that we will have a rotation of 3 starting RB's for 2026:
Here is a quick breakdown of the 2026 Running Backs:
Starters are the 1's and Second Team are the 2's

1.A - Rueben Owens, 5'11 215lbs - Junior (RS)
Strengths = Straight ahead speed / Pass blocking - Most Experienced Back

1.B - Jamarion Morrow, 5'10" 205lbs - Sophomore
Strengths = Speed, Very Shifty / Lots of Twitch - All Purpose Back

1.C - Tiger Riden, 5"11" 212lbs - Sophomore
Strengths = Power with Speed / Pass Catching - Most Power Running of the 3 - All Purpose Back

2.A - KJ Edwards, 5'11" 195lbs - True Freshman
Strengths = Lots & Lots of Speed - A Real Burner & Breakaway Threat - All Purpose Back

2.B - Carsyn Baker, 6"2" 210lbs - True Freshman
Strengths = True Power Back / Run over you capabilities with great speed - Power Back

With red-shirting rules taken into consideration & implemented for both 2A & 2B -
I still see them playing some in the 2026 season.
Like Terry Bussey = Both 2A & 2B are very talented & highly capable of contributing.

Very exciting position group

Oddly enough I think the biggest wildcard might be the projected starter....

Does Owens take that leap forward that most have been waiting patiently for? The potential is there, we've seen the flashes... just need consistency

If he doesn't come out on fire, I hope we give playing time to the younger backs

Too much talent on board to let this position flounder

Thanks! Where are the stats on production? That would be a good addition.

We just need Owens to stop tripping over Jiminy Cricket when he runs...get some YAC!

Needs more depth, IMO. The November schedule is BRUTAL, plus the potential SEC CG and playoffs. RBs get hurt all the time.

Hope to not rely on any true freshmen late in the season.

Morrow has good hands as well. I was impressed with him.

I thought Owens had turned a corner, but have my hesitations now again based on the latter part of the season. Would love to see what Morrow and Riden can do (along with the fish).

Tiger might step up and be a great surprise. Looking forward to his development.

KJ Edward's is a difference maker at RB. We haven't had one like him in a while. Would be shocked if he is not the best RB we have had in a very long time. IMHO he is the future and not distant future, very near future.

Hold on now. TAMU has had more than their fair share of very talented RBs enroll since 2012.

And now Edwards is another, let's see how he develops before crowning himthe Savior.

Brandon Williams 2011 5-star (OU transfer in 2012)
Trey Williams, 2012 5-star
Keith Ford, 2013 5-star (OU transfer in 2015)
Trayveon Williams, 2016 4-star (All-SEC 2018, All-America 2nd team 2018)
Cordarrian Richardson, 2017 4-star (UCF transfer in 2018)
Jashaun Corbin, 2018 4-star
Vernon Jackson, 2018 4-star
Isaiah Spiller, 2019 4-star (All-SEC 2020 1st team, All-SEC 2021 2nd team)
Devon Achane, 2020 4-star (All-SEC 2022)
Amari Daniels, 2021 4-star
LJ Johnson, 2021 4-star
Yulkeith Brown, 2021 4-star
Le'Veon Moss, 2022 4-star (All-SEC 2nd team 2024)
EJ Smith, 2022 4-star (Stanford transfer in 2024)
Rueben Owens, 2023 5-star
Jamarion Morrow, 2025 4-star
Tiger Riden, 2025 4-star

Great list. So many of those guys turned out to be a disappointment.

I was high on Le'Veon, and thought he was going to be an All SEC type back. He might have been, just injuries derailed him. He had a lot of talent.

Trayveon and Trey were both great backs.

Achane IMO was the best back on that list. I actual think Leveon would be second to only him if he didn't get hurt.

Lots of finesse and athleticism in that group, but not much power.

May have to employ a more Oregon-like run game that attacks the edges more than between the tackles

The only thing that stopped Achane was Jimbo. Guy is one of the best backs in the league right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if KJ is starting at some point next year.

Amazing that Owens was a 5-star and Achane was a 4-star. Achane is better than the rest of the field by far.

We need a true starter that Moss was supposed to be. Owens can't be your 1A.

I do feel that KJ might be the most complete back we've had in some time. We still need the short yardage RB that can get us 1-2 yards without fail. Maybe Baker or Riden fills that role?

more specifically Jimbo's lack of providing any sort of offensive line; Achane ran behind absolute trash most of his carreer at A&M

Achane has the best HS RB highlights that Ive ever seen and I've been following HS recruiting related to A&M for 20+ years. In short, I never understood how Achane wasn't a 5 star

Owens needs serious contact training. Gotta be able to break tackles in the SEC.

Sadly I agree; Owens is a 3rd down back especially with his really good hands. He needs space to be effective. I am guessing Morrow and KJ Edwards will share carries on 1st and 2nd down. Riden will probably be the short yardage back.

RB1 should be based on vision, not measurables. Find the next Cyrus Gray please.

For speed backs, I'd argue Jahmyr Gibbs was the only HS back I found more impressive, in the last 15 years. That said, nobody was Bijan level.

100%. Been saying this for two years in relation to Owens. Dude has terrible running instincts. I don't care about your measureables when you have no sense for flow and spatial perception. There was a reason Cyrus, Ben Malena, Trayveon Williams, and the like started over higher ranked prospects (including a lot of dudes on the list above).

I don't think that is fair. Jimbo is the one who identified him and was amazed he didnt have more offers.

Call me crazy, but Carsyn Baker strikes me as the type who, once he gets on the field, it'll be hard to take him off.

I think he works Sundays assuming he stays healthy. Dude will likely be 6'-1" and about 210 lb as a freshman.

Ran a 21.85 200-meter time as a high school junior. Achane's PR was a 20.31 in the Texas Relays.

Not a curse. RBs get hurt all the time, thats why experienced depth is so important. Relying on true freshmen late in the season doesnt look like the best approach.

Problem with getting a portal back is, as Billy said, you risk losing morrow or Owens

So if you lost Owens you'd just be replacing one experienced back for another and not adding any depth to the room

And you don't want to lose morrow because he's your second most experienced back and showed that he should be a really good player for you going forward, beginning this year

Also, Owens is probably a cheaper option and he's been here for 3 years already

Kind of speaks to the mental toughness (or lack there of) of some of the RBs, Instead of welcoming competition, you shy away from it. Makes you kind of wonder.

Just the nature of the game these days

These kids want to play I who can blame them when they have the option to go play somewhere else s f probably get paid more by going doing so

Do I look at it the other way: them staying here s c probably taking a little less than had they gone on the porno market, shows me they want to be here

But let's face it, if any of us were the starting rb and the coaches brought in another starting caliber back, we wouldn't be happy about it

Exactly. It's not just buying players it roster management and so many on here do not understand that.
