Achane turned out to be the best of all of those - and proving it in the NFL.

Not a curse. RBs get hurt all the time, thats why experienced depth is so important. Relying on true freshmen late in the season doesnt look like the best approach.
Problem with getting a portal back is, as Billy said, you risk losing morrow or Owens
So if you lost Owens you'd just be replacing one experienced back for another and not adding any depth to the room
And you don't want to lose morrow because he's your second most experienced back and showed that he should be a really good player for you going forward, beginning this year
Also, Owens is probably a cheaper option and he's been here for 3 years already

Just the nature of the game these days
These kids want to play I who can blame them when they have the option to go play somewhere else s f probably get paid more by going doing so
Do I look at it the other way: them staying here s c probably taking a little less than had they gone on the porno market, shows me they want to be here
But let's face it, if any of us were the starting rb and the coaches brought in another starting caliber back, we wouldn't be happy about it

I get all that. Really, I do.
So I'm assuming some of our RBs gave the RBs that Elko and Trooper entertained the past few weeks the "cold shoulder" so to speak?
That doesn't really paint a one big happy inviting family the players always talk about.
Just want to get a reality check on the nature of recruiting, contract deals, and mindset of the "new" professional player created by NIL and the portal these days. Not only at TAMU, but the other big $$ programs as well. I imagine it can't be much different.
All big business now.

KJ Edward's is a difference maker at RB. We haven't had one like him in a while. Would be shocked if he is not the best RB we have had in a very long time. IMHO he is the future and not distant future, very near future.

Its definitely big business now
I wouldnt say Elko and co gave the cold shoulder, they were probably looking to see if any of the backs were going to come in on the terms Elko wanted and how it would affect the current rb room, and they probably didn't find a fit all the way around
Only our coaches know how much they value the current players vs portal guys

It kind feels like, going are the days of coaches telling players to work your ass off for PT and coming are the days of players (and agents) telling coaches, "gimme my PT, or else".
I can only imagine its even more delicate with WRs where targets are at such a premium.
