I posted this on another thread here, but I'm gonna give it its own. And all of you can come at me with whatever you have. I really don't give a flipping floop. Of course everyone's entitled to their opinion, So sick of the whining and self-pity.

I don't get the obsession with the national championship. I mean yes ONE team a year gets to reach that point and it would be lovely if we did, but I watch Aggie football for so many more reasons than just a national championship and I don't define my life around it even though we've had season tickets for 40 years.

People are so hyper-focused on it these days. It's like nothing else matters. How about enjoying football and college football for the sake of it in addition to wanting to win. Of course it's the goal same with any sport, but it isn't all or nothing.

To each their own, but your lives would be a lot less miserable if you just enjoyed supporting your team and football and if we win one again someday that would be awesome. Honestly, the hunt for it to me is almost just as exciting. We never know a week a week which teams will play well which teams will play badly.

Why do you think you guys keep coming back every year? Because of the hope that we may get there in addition to supporting our Aggies.

Some of you may just need to quit watching the Aggies. Just go do something else with your life because it's short enough as it is it's not worth getting this upset over. Take it from me, I've lost several loved ones in my life recently. All y'all do is come on here and whine and ***** and moan about something that is not going to change your life at all.

That said I was extremely disappointed yesterday. It was not a good performance. They are not mutually exclusive.

And I know here come all the posts about it's mediocrity and we demand better and you don't understand and it's this attitude that has us where we are blah blah blah enough already ****ing enough.

A sport such as football, especially college football should not make you this miserable. Enjoy it for what it is as well.

12 teams get into the CFP. We were one of them.
11 of them will not win the championship.

I will always support my Aggies. For those of you that don't want to, fine, see ya.

Yup. It's that simple.

1-10 gameday says it all. (As a representation of always losing the big game)

Not even a Natty. Just be competitive at high levels. That's not an insane ask with as much money tha has been thrown at this problem.

I get what you're saying to an extent, like whether or not we lose yesterday or win it all, you should still probably be a stable person and enjoy whatever else is more important about life. But, this also reads like someone who just doesn't care that much about our program or its success. If the season to you is just putting on tshirts and rooting for us no matter what, and having fun doing so, cool...but, other fans are built different and see a program that has a ton of potential and needs to be fixed. Nothing wrong with wanting the pride that others can take in their football program. I feel pride in our university and its traditions, for sure, but our football programs has earned its reputation as perpetually underperforming, a joke. That sucks. We want that to change.

Were the lights not bright early on at ND?
As I recall, we weren't supposed to win that game.

Were the lights not bright at LSU and their amazing success in night games at Death Valley?
As I recall, that was the prime game that night, many picked us to lose - and we cleared the place out by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Were the lights not burning at halftime of the SC game, when the entire nation assumed we had finally been exposed and embarrassed? How did that turn out?

Yep, yesterday was another chance in the spotlight, and we laid an egg. Huge disappointment, no doubt.

But don't act like we haven't had success under the bright lights - both this year and in years past.
It's simply not true.

Do I hope we some day get under the bright lights and win it all? Absolutely!!

But as the poster said, every team in the CFP except one will fail under the bright lights again this year.
It's guaranteed.

All the others never even got a shot.

We deserved our shot, we were one of the 11 that will come up short - and now it's time to dust ourselves off, reassess where we need to improve, and come back stronger next year.

Or we can wallow in self-pity - but I think we're better than that.

They are folks who are never happy with what they have and always want more.

I coach youth hockey(10U and 12U) and I see this mindset with many parents. If their kid isn't the best or makes a mistake they yell at them. If their kid gets 1 minute less play time than an another kid over the course of a 42 minute house league game(it's expected for our travel kids), they lose their minds at us coaches despite is doing our best to get everyone equal time.

These kind of people are absolutely awful. They think the only metric for success in life is to be better than everyone else when in reality that is extremely difficult and rare.

When that ultimate success in their eyes doesn't happen, they are completely unable to find anything good and they throw tantrums when it doesn't go the way they want.

Since 1998, we haven't even been a participant in a conference title.

Since joining the SEC in 2012, we have had only two 10+ win seasons.

We have only been invited (yes, its basically an invitational the way its run right now) to the CFP, and put up 3 whole points.

Sip beat us 11 times out of 16 in the Big 12, and 100% of the time in the SEC.

Absolutely, we wilt when the lights turn up.

I think people are frustrated not just by the fact that the Ags lost, but by the way the team lost. It's hard to understand how a resource-rich program like this one could only manage to score 3 points against a very mid opponent (watch Miami get boat-raced by Ohio State in the next round).

I don't expect us to win the National Championship every year, but it would be nice to have won something/anything worthwhile since 1998.

A Big XII conference championship? Nope
An SEC conference championship? Nope
An SEC West championship? Nope
Get in the CFP? Yes
Don't **** the bed in first CFP appearance? Nope

It's not unreasonable for us to want to actually live up to the hype for once.

This.
In the playoff era, only one team out of 136 truly feels great after the last game of the season. But this was a fantastic season. 11-0 going into the last game of the regular season doesn't come around often to anyone.
I've witnessed 160 games at Kyle over the last 40 years. This team showed a lot of heart and was fun to watch.

I was literally joking with the old man on the way up to the game about how I was extremely happy that OU lost the night before so that they could take the record for being the first team to lose at home in the playoffs because I knew it was gonna be us if they didn't lose.

Exactly. There's no shame in a well fought loss, but despite the constant insistence that "things are different with Elko," they proceed to get embarrassed on the big stage at home. After getting embarrassed by tu, no less, who didn't even make the playoffs. When these things happen, the silver lining/consolation prize talk is cheap.

You can choose to see the program through your lens, and I'll see it through mine.

The past is the past - it has a lot of success gaps in it to be sure, but that's behind us.

We were under the microscope a good portion of the season as each week the media waited for us to fail. Unfortunately we finally obliged them, but we surprised a lot of people along the way.

We joined the SEC to test ourselves against the best; we're #4 in wins since joining, only behind Bama, UGA, and LSU. Being placed in the SEC West posed a huge challenge to the conference title game for us, but recent years have shown great promise. Closer approximations to the goal.

No, we're not there yet, but we're making solid progress. This year was the next step - next year we need to keep the trajectory moving upward. I'm excited for the future.

to me multiple things can be true at the same
time.

1. we always **** the bed when the lights are the brightest

2. we had a season the exceeded expectations and elko and the players deserves credit for that

3. elko as the HC fairly or unfairly carries the burden of every historical past failure.

to me all three of these things are true

I love Texas A&M University. I loved my time on campus, thrilled I have a degree and ring from TAMC. Football is football, I do not put my faith and love of the university into the hands of paid athletes. Is it fun to see my school win, yes. I got to see the Aggies in South Bend and Fayetteville this year with wins, I am happy to have spent time with my son experiencing that. Also I do not give any money (donations) to the university and never will.

I went to hit golf balls half way through the third quarter and I was headed to tee off when we threw the INT. I had a wonderful golf game, hit the driver flush all afternoon.

Until next season.

Gig 'Em Aggies!

Also the WVB team is playing for National Championship this afternoon!

I'd be okay with not trying to win the Natty. If we all agree to stop paying the coaches top money and now the players. We could just be a mid tier team and recruit good, hard working kids who love A&M. We could still go to games and tailgate and support the team for the love of A&M. We could be an average team for a lot less than what we are paying now.
AGDAD14
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Maybe we should donate less, lower ticket prices, decrease the budgets, and do without the "extras" and then the kids will have a reason to play harder and prove something. Otherwise, they just keep getting spoiled with no consequences.

Now tell the rest of the class how optimistic you still are when you compare the 2026 schedule to the one we just had. We're not even in "there's always next year" territory. We are in "let's see how things look the year after next."

Good post Annie.

I was not going to miss yesterday's game, bought tickets when it was announced. I knew that it was likely the most difficult path in front of us and as such a loss was very much a possibility. I yelled all game long to the point that it hurts to talk today. And I was disappointed in the outcome.

I do want to see a national title for the Aggies in football or baseball. But here is the lesson I learned from the Houston Astros - the euphoria from a title will last only so long. It will be merely something to look back on with fondness, not something that will impact my life going forward.

Yesterday was a maddening disappointment, but I will value that day for a long time. Why? My wife usually goes to the games with me, but she is a Girl Scout mom who had a camp on the schedule for this weekend. Our son lives on the other side of the State (south of Sherman), so this was a great opportunity to spend time with him, as we don't get to do that often enough - typically just for a day or so around Christmas or random times during the summers. For that, yesterday was great.

It's all because of her. We always seem to have that glimmer of hope to do something special, but always fall short. One chop block in 2012 (LSU) kept us from winning it all. If we were a program like Purdue or Syracuse where we expect to suck, then life would be more like you described in your OP.

For me, it was the mid-80s when we had Jackie and were dominating the swc and cotton bowl year after year that keeps my expectations high every year and gives me hope that one day we'll get back to that. But as I am getting older, I'm learning to try to get over it quicker. Merry Christmas everyone.

No. That's an upset. Aggies have been able to do that.

It's the gameday stat in college station. A bigtime game. Supposedly two great teams going at it. Boom. 1-10
