Klein I'm sure is 10000% locked in on calling plays for players and a team he will not see nor be a part of next year, just like he did during the sip game. Am I right or am I right? Locked in

That's a mistake and a big leap of faith
Lazy take. Big leap of faith, maybe. Mistake? You're making assumptions based on little to no information.
So, you don't think the fact he has never served as an OC is a legitimate basis for the assumptions ? Then why don't you add to that our Aggie history of making poor hiring/selection decisions on coaches.
No, I don't.
What's hysterical to me is that IF the Wiggins hire works out and the offense is great next season, and should other programs come sniffing around to offer him a job elsewhere, you'll be screaming from the rafters that we need to open up the checkbook to keep him, completely forgetting and ignoring the fact that you called his hiring a mistake in the first place.
We don't know if it'll work out or not. I agreed that it's a leap of faith. But calling it a mistake? We don't know that yet, YOU don't know that yet. Remember when we hired an experienced, veteran OC a few years back named Noel Mazzone? How did that work out?
As I posted earlier, the winningest, most successful HC in Texas A&M history had no experience as a HC when he was hired. None….zero. The presumption that just because someone hasn't done a job before makes them unqualified or unable to do it is extremely asinine.
It's not like Wiggins doesn't have an impressive resume'. These posts reek of entitlement, as if we are somehow deserving of "big name" hires at every open position…based on what exactly? The fact that we haven't won a NC in 86 years or a conference championship in 27?
Maybe we ought to trust the guy who we hired to be the HC, who is 19-6 in his first two seasons and who has us 11-1 and in the playoffs for the first time in school history, to make the right hire. It's not like his job doesn't depend on having quality assistants.
That and he's been co-OC here already as it is. Elko didn't just give him that as a fake title.LarryLayman said:Lurker44 said:
Risky with no OC experience. Hope for the best
Looks like he coached under Saban for three years(2019-2023) and was promoted by Saban to assistant head coach of offense in addition to wide receivers coach in his last year at Alabama, then Elko hired him. With the success coaches from the Saban tree have had I think this looks like a very good hire. He may not pan out but I don't see how anyone can think he is not qualified.

Elko wasn't a head coach until Duke came calling and now look what he has done in 4 years as the head man. Wiggins has been in the coaching ranks for some 20 years and he has coached both under Saban and now Elko. I trust that Elko knows what he's looking for so I'm not that worried about his decision.

The way safer approach would be to hire someone with an impressive history at OC.
Elko said he interviewed 5 other across the country for the OC job. And he landed right back on Wiggins.Batty said:
Coach Wiggins has been rumored since day 1, why the delay in the announcement?

Between this and the bonus structure Elko got for his assistants, Elko know exactly what he's doing.Tex117 said:
Elko is clearly wanting to create a culture where good coaches want to come work for him to take the next steps.
I hope Wiggins "has it", sure seems qualified to give it a shot.
In the end, this is as important a call for a head coach as any, so gotta trust Elko here until George's he can't identify coaching talent

So, who's going to be the QB coach? I'm assuming Wiggins is still coaching WR's
So bad that the GOAT made him assistant-HC.Bobaloo said:Jct_25 said:

No kidding. Devonte Smith won the Heisman and the Tide won a Natty. That's some legit awful.

He could be the best OC ever or the worst OC ever. We'll find out after next season.
We've hired a lot of coaches with all the right credentials that end up failing miserably.

Really? We couldn't find someone with actual experience?
A&M not very attractive in your mind to offensive coordinators, huh? How did we ever get Mike Elko as DC during Jimbo's days? LmaoSteveA said:Quote:
Rather hire someone elite at being Offensive Coordinator.
Yeah, because elite OC's are jumping at the chance to leave the place where they are elite for another OC job.... sheesh.
