I know most people only care about the Big 3, mostly football, but I want and expect the Aggies to be good in everything. Since my school days, we have won national championships in men's golf, men's and women's outdoor track, men's indoor track, women's basketball, women's tennis, and equestrian. We've seen baseball, softball, and women's soccer play for national championships. Football went 11-1 and made the playoff in year 2 under Elko. Women's volleyball is in the Final Four in year 3 under Morrison.

The majority of these other sports don't bring money in, but they shine a light on our school and are a source of pride when they accomplish feats like what the volleyball team did tonight. I hope the new soccer coach revives that once-proud program and our basketball teams bring the excitement back to Reed Arena.

To dovetail on the women's side of athletics, I just read an ESPN article stating the Nebraska Women's Volleyball program is the only Women's athletic program in the entire NCAA to turn a profit. And they have been ranked in the Top 25 Coaches poll since the inception of the poll in 1982.

Good note.
I'll pass this along to the folks in the athletic department.

Yep. True info. My son is in his senior year at Nebraska. Volley ball tickets, even for students, are about impossible to get. Been that way since his freshman year. If you are ever there for a football game and want authentic Mexican, go to
NEVERIA SAN MARCOS about 4 blocks or so from the stadium. Not luxurious, but I'm not going for interior scenery.

Disagree. The only other sporting event I care about outside of football is shot put.

Just shot put.

Nebraska used to be really good in football back in the Big 8 and early Big 12 years.
Valvoline fully synthetic oil is a great choice when changing your oil. Oil has gotten expensive but you have to protect your engine.

Being good at other sports than football usually means you're under-producing revenue and over-spending it…

Great metaphor! Its incomplete and I'll finish it for you.

One can have the best engine, best oil, best tires, best driver, best pit crew, best automotive racing techology and the best race day strategy and when the car team owner(s) will not get out of the way of the NASCAR crew chief bad things can & will happen.

We"ve been the leaders in that approach for decades.....until Crew Chief Elko and Enterprise Manager Alberts showed up, no?

Class of 81 for context..

That's because there is nothing else to do in Nebraska.
And, they take great pride in their athletic programs.
So, Nebraska athletics become the "pro" sport of the state.

And rain is wet....

Yes, we should be good in all sports and sometimes we are, sometimes we aren't and sometimes we are baffling.

Living in Nebraska and living with a Nebraska Alumni (surprised I'm still breathing after yesterday), Nebraska Volleyball is basically held at the same standard as football.

Should A&M be great at every sport, yes, we have the student body base, the money, and quite literally every stadium and arena is nice.

Outside of Football & Baseball (might have changed since I graduated in 2020) no one went to other sports games on a consistent basis. I can probably guess the average attendance to Volleyball was maybe 1200 people.

I do think there is a way to change this, but it's controversial and revolves around the student sports pass.

Tickets to the big 3 are subject to school spirit to other sports.

For example, if I'm a sophomore on 2025/26 school year and I'm consistently going to volleyball, basketball, football, softball, track & field... my junior year sports pass (if renewed) I'll be ranked higher in football ticket pull than a junior going into their senior year who just went to football games.

Would be a complicated system and most likely unliked, but a great way to motivate 50K+ to support all sports.

We have the money, now it's time to show the transfers & HS recruits what it's like to play in the big leagues.

I don't know. If I ever find my self in Nebraska, don't think I'm going to get Mexican food.

Even if football is the only sport you are passionate about, being successful in some of these sports can take part of the financial load off of football. Now, that's not true in every sport -- we can have the best golf team in the world (which I would be proud of), but they will never bring in any significant revenue. However, volleyball and women's basketball could reduce the load on football financially if we sold more tickets.

It's got to be better than a Runza. Your culinary options in Nebraska are rather limited.

That system exists. Bar coded ticket assigned to owner. You get points for attending. Tracks all sports attendance by owner. South Dakota State uses and points accumulated impacts the season ticket prices (increases or reduces) for the next season. It could be tailored to student use. SDSU wants fans in the seats, not just buying tickets and not showing up. I dont know if A&M has this system, I've been away a long time.

Excelling in sports outside of football often signals high expenses with comparatively low revenue returns.

If you have never been to a football game in Lincoln, you should go. I went in 1999, and had such a good time, I went back for the other 2 Big XII games there.

It was fun, even when the Ags got smashed. Fans are fantastic, the basement bars are great, the capitol building is cool to check out if you have time to kill sat morning before an evening game. The fans were cool even when we beat them at their place.

Seems like a solid idea. With all of our teams having success, I think most students just need the push to get into the arena. Once they're in there, they're going to have a great time. It's getting them to try it that's the problem, and a system like this would seemingly help with that

In the past 20 years or so, Texas A&M has had a lot of success outside of the sports that have lots of fans (football and mens basketball). I don't actually watch these other sports, but it is cool to see their success.

Actually only one sport brings in enough to pay for itself- and it funds all of the others.

This is what University of Tennessee does, essentially. As a student, you are not guaranteed to get a football ticket. By attending other Tennessee sporting events you accumulate points. The more points you have, the better chance you have to get a football ticket. It's a great system.

I couldn't believe when I heard that they had only lost SEVEN sets all season, including only one at home. That's wild!
