Hunter just confirmed what I thought their logic will be on BYU. They were the only team in the conference championship that lost to the same team in convincing fashion.

Even though Bama has more loses on paper, they beat the team that beat them in the conference championship.

I agree. If you think about the basketball tournament, those "cinderella teams" are in the tournament on a massive disadvantage. They have to navigate the "first four" and only then they get matched as a 16 who has to play the 1.

In the CFP, they are in the tournament on a massive advantage (selection). They are essentially given a cinderella win (ie theoretical JMU defeats ND) without having to play. It stinks.

Gruden has a pretty good piece on how you fix this. Not an easy fix (would require downsizing conferences) but probably the most logical solution. It is posted in another thread somewhere so I won't link it here.

No we would still be in, had we been in bama's position. The committee will not risk pissing off the SEC or sending the message to the B1G that your conference champ game pushes you out.

What it was was conference politics, and everyone's wants ND in their conference. How do you try and force their hand, and keep everyone happy? Tell them to pound sand. Also remember ESPN basically runs the CFP, theyre desperately trying to keep the acc together. They can not allow the group to be unrepresented

Personally I prefer the 7 over the 6 due to playing OSU before Georgia if we get by Miami. But definitely would have liked to have Oregons path.

They obviously favor the big ten by having Ohio state ahead of Georgia and Oregon above all the other one losss SEC teams. Ohio State should have dropped to 4, Tech at 3 and Georgia at 2

Bottom line is they weren't going to drop Bama out for making a conf championship game against a great Georgia team who they already beat on the road.

It's easier to explain leaving ND out than Miami.
