Our offensive line is not terrible, but it's not good enough to go on a playoff run this year. We can cross that possibility off the list.
Marcel Reed is inconsistent, doesn't see the field very well, and is slow to deliver the ball downfield. He also ran in a few situations where there had to be an open receiver somewhere. O'Neill is a better passer, but less trustworthy to run the offense. Once again we don't have enough certainty or dependability at the most important position.
Our pass defense wasn't fixed last week, and it's not fixed this week either. Tackling and overall effort in coverage were still poor, and we let too many receivers get open by 5+ yards.
Run defense was mildly better in the middle, but we were barely tested there at all so I don't take anything away from that. We are still awful at stopping plays out on the perimeter.
A good mobile quarterback is going to kill us.
A good offense with tempo is going to kill us.
Any well-executed misdirection is going to kill us.
Our receivers are badass despite the drops. Frankly they are underutilized. It's hard to say Craver, Bussey, and KC shouldn't each get 8+ touches per game.
The sacks were good to see, but setting aside the flash plays, I don't think we are consistently collapsing the pocket enough on pass plays. We need more consistent pressure.
The run game on offense was more of an emphasis, and we found a rhythm at times, but there are still significant questions about how effective we can be against a team with a good front 7.
Our kicking game is not very good. What the ****. Just make kicks. It's your one job.
A win over Notre Dame would shock me. There is no reason to believe we will win that game.
I still feel ok about my 7-5 prediction for now, but I am starting to wonder if I should have gone with 6-6.
