If the AP is worth anything we'll finally break our Texas 8-4 moniker only to go 7-5.

We have ND, Florida, S Car., corndog, and the perennial champions of August in sip all ranked ahead of us. Hell we even got Illinois, k state and smu ranked ahead of us.

Nevertheless, 19 is right where we belong. The challenge becomes finishing the season ranked better than 19… A tall task, history would say.

9-3 should get us there, and it would be a good enough season for most. But the level-heads of the zoo have been predicting this every year since '20 and it almost seems unattainable.

Since the zoo and the AP both mostly wrong about all things, our best shot at breaking the curse is by sticking to our guns and predicting the inevitable 8-4. Hell, maybe some y'all will finally get a chance to say I told you so even. What a day that would be.

7-5 is the safe option. Probably lose ND, LSU and sips. Add in a couple other games where we just don't show up like usual

Not sure why people repeat the 8-4 meme:

2024 8-5
2023 7-6
2022 5-7
2021 8-4
2020 9-1
2019 8-5
2018 9-4
2017 7-6
2016 8-5

I understand the meme refers to the "regular season" but for more punch just talk about the conference record instead or perhaps just the overall November record.

By comparison, Elko's Duke record fit those trends from Jimbo and Sumlin perfectly, btw…as did his first season here…

So the last 9 years, an average of about 7.5 wins per year. The optimist predicts 8-4. The pessimist 7-5.

I'll go with the optimistic 8-4. although the team could surprise with 9 wins. We're due.

5 Wins - UTSA, UT St, Auburn, Miss St, Samford

3 Tossups: Florida, @Arkansas, @Missouri

4 Losses - @Notre Dame, @LSU, South Carolina, @Texas

I would personally put Auburn in the tossup category. That will not be an easy game. Probably South Carolina too.

Honestly 8-4 in the regular season is really optimistic. I tend to think we go 7-5 and win a meaningless bowl game, but we could easily go 6-6.

I still see 9-3 but really anything from 7-5 to 10-2 are very likely to happen.

7-5 Elko's seat is hot
8-4 Elko's seat is warm
9-3 Elko's seat is cool
10-2 Elko's seat is ice cold

Bottom line: If Elko is 8-4 again, or worse, he's a dead man walking. Have to move on to the next best option. We cannot be an 800 pound gorilla in NIL and a capuchin monkey on the field.

I believe we'll win the Florida and South Carolina games at home. Also think we'll win one of the Arkansas-Missouri games. The Razorbacks always circle our game and play hard at home. I just don't see Missouri matching up well with us.
My prediction is 9-3 and if we are injury free I can see a possible upset win against ND, LSU and/or tu to go 10-2. Maroon kool aid tastes really good today.

We upset Notre Dame and tu

We lose to LSU

Upset late in the season at home to SC

That would be a very successful Aggie football season and typical to loose to SCar late in the season AT HOME.

while we play a very competitive schedule i think where and when we catch some of the teams we are playing is beneficial to us. we catch florida at the tail end of a tough four game stretch. we catch arky the third game of a tough 4 game stretch. i like playing notre dame when we play them, it will be our third game and only their second and they will have to show their cards in game one against miami. so what i am saying is good chance of 8-4

9. South Carolina - 7 & 5
10. Auburn - 7 & 5
11. Florida - 6 & 6
12. Arkansas - 6 & 6
13. Arkansas - 6 & 6

I think your seat assessment is accurate. Even though Sark was allowed to go 5-7 then 7-5 in his first two seasons.

Elko might've done himself a disservice by going 8-4 with a big November collapse like he did.

Fair, but I could see South Carolina being a tossup (or at least we hav3 a decent chance). I still think we most likely lose 4.

My biggest hope is that we make it through the year without losing a qb and he is still playing well enought to be the starter. Seldom happens.
If it did we could easily go 9-3

The Notre Dame, LSU, and Texas games will be the games that ultimately define our season. All on the road and spaced out over the course of the season.

We'll beat everyone else. A&M sneaks into the playoff this season. May lose in the first round, but we'll make it.

I am predicting we will go 7-0 at home and 2-3 in road games with losses to Notre Dame, LSU, and Texas. We have lost 7 consecutive November road games since a 34-13 road win at Tennessee on 12/19/2020. Winning at Missouri would snap that losing streak and give us our first road win in November or later in 5 years.
