TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting and transfer portal trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • Jonah Wilson is a kid out of Spring Dekaney High School. He was committed, I believe, to Texas for a little bit. He signed with Houston. I saw him two or three times in-game action and in camps. Always been a big, physical kid. He plays that way. He plays like an outside receiver. He was very gifted in down-the-field scenarios as a high schooler. His career at Houston got derailed with a coaching changes and injuries. He will come to A&M with three years left. Nebraska was a popular pick when he went into the portal. I think they made a big push for him.

  • Quietly, about the time Noah Thomas decided he would go to Georgia, A&M was looking for how they would fill the role, if they could in this portal window. They were going to look for a productive outside receiver to come into the room. Jonah Wilson’s name started bubbling up behind the scenes at the time Noah deceived he was going to leave. Trooper Taylor had the point of contact with him.

  • For Jordan Carter‍ and Aaron Gregory‍, Trooper Taylor was the key recruiter for those as well. He has a ton of recruiting chops and connections. That’s why he led the charge here quietly. It wasn't a real scenario 72 hours ago, but 48 hours ago, it was.

  • A&M has been explicitly clear with Jonah... Coming off an injury, he doesn't have a ton of production, but he has a ton of promise. The reason this became a real scenario is because Jonah called A&M. He bet on himself. He is on scholarship. How he carves out his role and Texas A&M will be in offseason workouts with Tommy Moffitt and what he looks like going into spring ball.

  • He could fill a similar role to Noah, but his addition will not preclude A&M from going out in the spring portal window to add a receiver. They are still keen on doing that. They will scour all the kids that go in. Taking a kid like Wilson is a nice insurance policy to have this spring.

  • They had to upgrade the talent. They knew that. Micah Hudson was a year removed from being one of the best high school receivers I have ever watched. It’s Garrett Wilson and Micah Hudson... You take a chance on that talent. What I understand is he has been awesome so far at A&M. He just needed a change of scenery.

  • You forget about Terry Bussey because he had to do so many things. You are talking about a receiver room now that has three former five stars in it. What does Jerome Myles‍ look like when he comes in? He has De’Von Achane 100-meter time, and he’s almost 6-foot-4, 211 pounds.

  • What does the next year look like for Ashton Bethel-Roman? He was Scout Team Player of the Year, and that is encouraging. It would be easy to sulk if you didn't play every Saturday. Mike Elko has said they want to build a developmental football program. You want to stockpile it from the high school ranks.

  • Texas’ OL is homegrown players. Four of the five were not highly rated as recruits. Look at what Georgia puts on the field. It's a lot of high school guys. It's encouraging they have been able to flip the room at positions of need at tight end and receiver, and I still think they need another at defensive tackle. The goal is to get this place to where you don't have to flip rooms. You have to supplement them.

  • A&M’s add/drop date is Friday. We still haven’t gotten an announcement from Trey Zuhn III. If you haven't declared, you are still in school.

  • I am 90 percent sure the defensive tackle search will go into the spring window unless one of these guys from the final two teams goes in, and they are able to land him. I would not close the door in the second window on addition at a position of need that was a new thought as a position of need. I don't know what that is. Coaches will watch these kids work out, and after, they may say, “We could use one more interior defensive lineman.”

  • Defensive tackle and wide receiver are at the very top of the board. They would like to, if they can find the right ones, add one at each position.

  • Linebacker? Tristan Jernigan was Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year. Jordan Lockhart played quite a bit. Daymion Sanford, Scooby Williams and Taurean York are all returning. Noah Mikhail‍ and Kelvion Riggins‍ are coming in. If someone gets banged up in the spring, they may need one more.

  • Trey Wallace is a name I have not heard. Him going in the portal was a by-product of you not throwing your receivers the ball one time in that game. He got zero targets in that playoff game. He probably has a school already picked out. I don't think A&M is in it right now.

  • Junior Day has quality over quantity. Three five stars on their visitor list, including Jackson Cantwell‍ and Immanuel Iheanacho‍. It was important that A&M got them on campus early. Cantwell had a great visit with Coach Pat Henry and the track team. He is one of the elite shotput throwers in the country.

  • Iheanacho, I feel good that he will come back later this spring. I think Cantwell will take an official visit to Texas A&M. Jermaine Bishop‍ was on campus, and he is legitimately a two-way player. He is smaller than Travis Hunter.

  • There were standout 2027s here as well. I spoke to Tank King‍. I asked him where A&M was on his list and he said, “Very, very high.”

  • I don't know if the in-state class is as deep as it's been in the past. There are some really nice, intriguing battles shaping up between the Aggies and Longhorns in 2026.
