we play too much 4-2 box with us counting on a cover nickel or deep safety to be that extra box defender. 4-2-5 doesn't work unless you have that stud star safety who can play Sam backer and cover. We don't have one and people all year have abused us for it. like how about a 50 front that can flex to and over or under something else that gives the offense something to think about from a personnel stand point.
I gave the post a star but needed to quote to highlight it again. Of all the shortcomings this season this frustrates me the most.

These refs absolutely suck, too many phantom calls and not ONE holding call on their OL. However.....
Collin Klein play calling is a HUGE problem. Where is the zone-read? Where is the RPO for Reed. If we are going to force a drop back pass game then it takes away some of Reeds game changing abilities. Mostly, the problem is terrible 3rd down play calling. 3rd and 4 or less and we are throwing 20+ yard passes. Klein has no feel for just getting an easy first down and staying on the field. Simple RPOs, roll out RPOs, crossing routes, just get 5-7 yards on 3rd down. It is a HUGE problem and let USC get back in the game. It was 24-7 and now 24-21 while we F away 3rd down play after 3rd down play...
