The next version of the playoff whether it be 16 or 24 teams needs to dispense with the DEI welfare slots given to G5 schools and teams like SMU.

The only good thing this latest brain fart of a playoff version has done is that it exposed what happens when you try to "distribute the equity" and give completely outmatched teams a shot at something they are nowhere near qualified for.
Future playoffs need to rely heavily on strength of schedule and overall quality of opponents...not just that you won a weak conference.

Go take a gander at their bracket. And despite this literally nobody is asking them to reduce the playoffs to four teams. Blowouts are important data points it tells you who is better than who and by how much. Committees are the problem because they are consistently clueless.

12 team format excludes the "could get hot and make a run" teams like Ole Miss, Alabama, TAMU, USCe, Miami, in favor of "good" teams in weak confrences. That is the case this year, remains to be seen if that is a constant. 24 team format would give all of those teams a shot and provide a better overall product in my opinion. Yes you are going to have some bad games in early round. Just like you do in the round ball tournament in March, and, also the FCS bracket as mentioned above. When you start filtering that field though, I believe you end up with the best ball available any given year.
