From what I understand after having recently spoken to a cadet on campus, is that there is a series of interviews (wonder who) and a physical fitness consideration ( that part seems like a good idea ) to select those who will "run" for the position.

Then its a campaign called " 5 for yell". Where it seems more like a campaign to get to know the yell leaders vs an actual free election.

One block of candidates to vote "yes" for. If that's true then it's an inside selection for a mock "election". Like the democrat primary process has been.

If it were an actual election and the business school block voted then their candidate or candidates would easily outvote the 2,300 cadets. This is why it's rigged now.

If so then the image we have here falls squarely on the cronies on the selection committee.

Free election would yield better results. In my day we had some nonreg yell leaders. It seems to make the group better ( fair competition results in a better product)

Unless you count the year over a decade ago when Drew Nelson, the non Corps guy, was elected as a yell leader. Pretty certain he was not in the Corps

Someone would have to check me on this, but that might have been the first instance where someone not in 5 for Yell was voted in

I hope you realize how many girls grow up in cheer or dance squads from a very young age that would LOVE to represent A&M on a large national stage.

...and it doesn't have to be all raw raw and pom poms. I fail to see how letting them on the sideline in some capacity alongside the yell leaders suddenly turns us into Ole Miss.

This is why we are a terrible to mediocre football program. We care too much about stupid things that don't matter like Yell leaders instead of acquiring the best possible players to get us a championship like tu does. Here we are three pages deep into this thread with over 90 responses.

If eliminating or deemphasizing yell leaders gets us better recruits, do that. If it doesn't affect recruiting, don't touch it.

If getting cheerleaders improves our image and gets us better recruits, do that. If not, don't bother.

Everything surrounding the football program should be focused on getting the best possible recruits and winning.

No one cares what you, Joe Fan, thinks about Yell leaders, cheerleaders, or DJs. Your opinion does not matter. Only the players and coaches' opinions do. Focus on becoming wealthier as a program to improve NIL and talent acquisition instead of concessions. The spice must flow.

By all means, get rid of Yell Leaders and every other tradition that sets us apart. That way, we can be just like everyone else. The same thing with church. Adopt every gimmick going around today, look just like the world, and make yourselves irrelevant.

It's either the lack of hot cheerleaders or the Indian burial ground thing that has us cursed. Let's try the cheerleader thing first. It's a lot cheaper.

After they've destroyed college football, taken away bonfire, the DJ exchanged for the band, yell leaders gone, some of us will fondly remember what was. Enjoy Disney world a few Saturdays in the fall.
