No. If you want to be like everyone else, turn in your ring and diploma and go get you a t-shirt from whatever university you choose. We don't have to be like everyone else and you don't need to give 2 shts about what they think.

Midnight yell practice does not help us in recruiting nor on the field. Actually, I'd rather ZERO "unknowing" recruits ever see it *cringe*.

I encourage you to go look up the bio of every single yell leader. Not only am I not embarrassed by them I'm glad I went to a school with yell leaders. Now the Aggies who look at some dumb post on Facebook and come on here and complain that we need to flush 100 years of tradition down the toilet because they are embarrassed. That is embarrassing. Delete Facebook. Trust me.

Not trying to hate on the yell leaders. They remind me of the overachievers in boy scouts, huge nerds but you know they're gonna be successful someday.

Embarrassing was probably too strong of a word. As other posters said, it needs to course correct a little bit to be a little more manly and edgier.

Such a lame and tired argument. A what a yell leader says on a Friday night had no influence on my decision to attend A&M, and shame on anyone that minimizes what makes A&M unique to it.

If we're not going to get rid of the yell leaders, at least put some hot cheerleaders out there with them.

I know this attitude goes against Aggie custom and tradition, but if you aren't evolving then you are slowly dying. So much of what the Yell Leaders do was designed to work in the 1920s when they were the only thing happening at a game besides the game. The things they do were designed to work before every student at the game has a cell phone distraction, HD TVs, and streaming Yell Practices. If they aren't careful they might find themselves being replaced by a DJ and fighting to justify their existence because of tradition.

For example when I was in the Aggie Band we only ever played full songs except for Wildcat. We also would refuse to travel if we couldn't march. I remember the university threatening to send Hullabaloo band to play at away games if we didn't. Somewhere after I left the band evolved to now play small snippets of popular songs in shorter breaks. They also will send a ~100 piece non marching travel band to every game.

Keep what matters and is important and evolve what isn't working.
A few random ideas that I haven't put a ton of thought into:

Hire real joke writers for Yell Practice. Tell a few real funny jokes about the other team, then you can tell a traditional corny Ol Rock story. The same tired jokes they tell don't work in a world of You Tube.

Simplify everything: Ditch the weird poses when you pace back and forth. You can still pace if you want for some tradition. Trim down the Yell motions to what is necessary. Looks weird in HD

Ditch the painted overalls. Something that doesn't work in HD.

Put a Yell Leader in the DJ booth.

Double the amount of Yell Leaders. The stadium expanded and they should have too. We should have Yell Leaders in front of both end zones and the alumni side. Yes even if that means having some Non-Regs and women.

Yells take too long. Pass back, hump it, count off before a Yell takes too long in the modern game with a ton of ads. Therefore they don't do many in a game. Save traditional yells for pre game, quarter breaks, etc. instead figure out musical cues for the Yell Leader DJ that leads a shorter yell. Something like [musical cue] " Farmers Fight!" or [musical cue] " Gig 'em Aggies!". No passback, no count off, just call and response for the DJ and the students.

No, they don't. One thing we do have in common is both TU cheerleaders and the Aggie yell leaders like men.

I live far far away from College Station. Most of my friends know nothing about our school or our traditions other than what they see on TV.

More often than not, people will ask me if I was one of the "Yell Leaders" and I never know if I should take it as a diss or a compliment

I then go on to explain the history of Yell Leaders and how they currently get elected, and they always look at me like I'm crazy after

Yell Leaders each need to adopt their own persona... like wrestlers in WWE. Wear a costume and talk trash. Kinda like Hulk and Randy.

It's my opinion as well. I want to attract the best players and want players to want to be here, not just because of money. Kids aren't identifying with that. You guys that want to be successful on the field but don't want to change the silly aspects of the university are stuck in neutral.

We're the second largest university in the US. We're not having any trouble attracting ANYONE due to yell leaders. If we had the room and lowered the standards, we'd easily have 125K students.

What am I missing in the video? This is the same thing I've been seeing since my first yell practice in 1994. I think it's fantastic.
