We are still A&M and they are a crap university. We are the elite university in Texas that everyone wants to goto while they are a third rate university in a third rate state.

earlier this morning someone asked why college football was so important and this answer summarizes it.

Would anyone care about the state of Louisiana, Alabama or Oklahoma if they didn't have great college football teams?
These football players bring honor to their respective states and Universities when they win. This is why they now get paid so much money.

Tourism goes up in Louisiana when the Tigers are doing good.
There are more people that fly into New Orleans to spend the weekend in Baton Rouge when LSU is competing for the SEC title.

SEC football is big business.
