This guy is playing this way as a RS freshman.
Playing similar to the lamar Jackson we saw in the bowl game.
Marcel could develop into a superstar quarterback over the next couple years.
Why are we still acting like Conner is the one with all the potential?
Reeds upside is way higher than Conners at this point.

For sure. If he gets to be a 65% passer A&M is going to difficult for anyone to beat. He's at ~56% and his TD to int ratio is perfect. He's proven he can be accurate, a little more consistency and he has Heisman potential.

This dude was a damn find! His poise is next level as a freshman.

On the broadcast, Herbstreit said he has known Marcel since he was 14, Herbie's son played with him he said the kid can sling the ball. I think we haven't seen his full potential. I think he said this is just scratching the surface of what the kid is capable of. I think some players just have the it factor, they just know how to win even if it doesn't look pretty all the time.

Klein's offensive strategy also meshes very well with Reed's abilities. Future looks very bright and it is great to have two good-great QBs on the roster.

I do think Connor has a better arm, but he needs to get out of his own head.

If Reed keeps progressing and becomes more consistent with his passing, he will be a Heisman frontrunner.

What thread did you read where everyone thought Conner was the only one with any upside? To me it looks like the opposite. If Reed can be a little more consistent in the passing game he'd be unstoppable but on the other hand Conner will never learn how to be the runner that Reed is.

Lamar Jackson never broke 60% completion % either.

He's a redshirt freshman and he has started and won several games for us this year so I'd say we are appropriately estimating him.

55.6% completion percentage is not ~60%

If he can become more accurate passer he has a chance to be an elite QB but he was only a 56% passer in high school. Plus he has work to do on seeing the field in passing situations but he's an elite runner.

He's still young so there is time for him to improve but he has a way to go with his passes.

Yeah, I edited after looking it up. I thought CW was around 60% and I remember seeing Reed was like within 1% of him.

His wide open top-end speed doesn't match Lamar, but I don't consider it all that important. He will be lethal if he continues developing as a passer. Decision making is already great. Slightly Better accuracy and working multiple reads could take him to next level

I don't understand this dumb idea that has pervaded this board for several years that "completion percentage" is an absolute proxy for a quarterback's accuracy, and also that accuracy is just inherent and can never improve. Its asinine. Obviously a quarterback has a lot of impact on it, but honestly what type of offense are you running, what type of throws are you being asked to make is a huge factor in what your completion percentage is by itself.

The kid is a winner. Period. I love his composure, intellect and presence. His dad has coached and taught him well… not only football skills, but a winning mindset which I think might be his most important skill set.

He does need to take a few downfield shots when available during the game. That was his issue earlier in the season when teams didn't respect his arm. Glad to see him complete 1 to Noah Thomas in the LSU game. If he can hit 2-3 of those per game watch out because this offense will be wide open.

I know we are projecting every game to be as good as the last game because that's what fans do, but remember that 2 years ago everyone was sure CW was the real deal for the future because he looked good against LSU. Or the Kenny "Trill" Hill game. Or going back even further, Reggie upsetting #1 OU. My point is that I hope this is the beginning of a great career, but it probably doesn't work that way more often than it does. (Edit: and Reggie ended up with a solid career, as did Kenny albeit not here, but neither certainly was as lofty as everyone was dreaming at the time).

Everyone keeps wanting to give Conner chances because he is the 5 star with "next level arm talent"

For the record I think Marcel Reed is a very talented quarterback and I hope will have a great future at A&M.
My concern is that he might try to do too much on his own without using the talent around him.
I hope that is not the case going forward but it is a concern.

Marcel Reed was not a "find". He was a high four star with offers from Bama and literally everyone else.

This. If we were 5-3 right now, I'd be 100% for giving Reed the keys. Work for next year. What we have a chance to do this year is special, and I hope all fans realize the answer needs to be whichever QB gives us a chance to win on that particular day. Neither guy has shown to be 100% the answer, so we roll with what they're giving us that day

Because Reed has. But so has Conner so it's not a simple decision.

It would be much easier if we weren't in the playoff picture.

Reed's completion % needs to improve but he doesn't turn the ball over either . There is plenty to work with and I feel like he's a good decision maker. Couple that with the threat he provides with his legs and there is much potential.

I dunno what the deal is with Weigman. I know he has the talent but hasn't been consistent since his injury. Confidence level just doesn't seem to be there.

Reed hasn't thrown an INT yet. Knock on wood. But Connor scares me now with just a sense he can get overwhelmed (or something) and start throwing it to the other team (like at Miss State and ND). Miss State, he threw the ball directly to their guys like 4 times. We got lucky they only caught it twice.

This might be a really low scoring game where the team that doesn't make the catastrophic mistake wins. His running ability aside, I just trust Reed's seemingly strong mental fortitude more than I trust Weigman's right now. I don't care if Connor has the ability to complete a few more passes in this kind of game if he also throws a pick six.

Everyone? I see more posters that are for moving forward with Reed than I do for Conner. I think you're trying to stir something up that's not there.

There are concerns with Reed but one thing he's been great and consistent with so far is TOs. Plus he does seem to have that It factor. If he can become a better passer he has a chance to be elite. Right now he's started 3 games and in 2 of them our offense has been slowed.

There have been some small scale case studies that have shown very few college quarterbacks improve their completion percentage from high school by more than a few points. Completion percentage is a good, though imperfect, proxy for the combination of decision and accuracy. It is a very imperfect proxy for the impact the QB has because completing 50% of deep throws is much more impactful than completing 90% of short throws. That being said Marcel's biggest struggle has been on the deep throws so his overall impact in the passing game is not buoyed by the fact he's hitting downfield throws at a similar clip to his short throws.

Marcel has also struggled with mid range outside the numbers. He's good in the short game and over the middle but really bad outside the numbers and deep.
