The difference between this season and other seasons

Of all the Aggie traditions, Disappointment is probably the tradition that stands out during football season. We start out with high expectations, and then we are quickly brought down to earth by a lackluster performance in the first game, followed by inconsistent performance in the subsequent games. Those early season mistakes never seem to go away, and we spend the rest of the season wondering if the next game will be the one where the team finally pulls it all together. Probably not.

This season started out the same way it always has, so a lot of of us resigned ourselves to honoring the oldest of Aggie traditions: Disappointment. But things are different this year, almost imperceptibly so, but definitely different. All those stupid little mistakes and misplays that frustrate us all are slowly disappearing. Not all at one time, but according to a pattern. Coaches are getting more inventive. Players are more disciplined. Momentum is building. This team and these coaches are building something, and it's not an accident. Every week, the product is one step closer to the goal visualized by Coach Elko when he first took the job. All according to plan.

When I looked at the replay of the Missouri game, I didn't focus on all the things the team did right. I noticed the things they did wrong, and the fact that there were fewer of those mistakes than the week before. And looking back on it, I realized that this has been the case with every game: a slow but steady build toward the team that Elko envisions. I do not recall an Aggie season when I was so confident that the team that took the field for the next game would be better than the one that played the week before. It's fun to watch.

The biggest difference is that this season is happening this year, and the other seasons happened in different years.

Very well said!
I don't post much but I read almost everything. My take now is the first game, that put most of us in a place we have too often been, put our team in a really good spot. We learned to adapt and overcome adversity. Areas that were suspect improved, strong facets got better and we got experience and development at the most key position.
We should now go into this make or break month of October ever so slightly under the radar. Given the product that we saw on Saturday, we now only need small improvements each week to roll into November 8-1 and 1 more road win away from a playoff spot and a shot at the CCS.
All things considered, I like our odds.

Since 1998 (the start of the BCS era), seven national champions have lost at least one game.

If you holistically look at it thru an holistic lens, holistically it would seem so.

Good vibes!

Klein is running what I like to call an opportunity offensive scheme, where everyone has the chance to compete and succeed. It's designed to open up the offense for our strong middle class group of players. As you may know, Klein himself comes from a strong middle class group of players.

We haven't seen an Aggie team full of discipline and accountability, that stays focused and works together as a team. There's no doubt it is the culture that Elko brought that is building this beast. If he keep these guys grounded and fully engaged then we can continue this trend and do special things. Looking forward to it.

Guys, we're only 4 years removed from losing 1 game all season including the orange bowl. Y'all are being a little dramatic

I tend to agree but we need that game where we play poorly and have to dig deep to win it. It seems like every championship team has that game. That's when you know your team has what it takes.

For example. I think people are wrong about Mizzou. I think they are a good team who got shell shocked by a couple of tough calls and basically hung their heads and quit.

I have been told that season doesn't count. And that North Carolina having some key players opt out is the only reason we won that Orange Bowl.

I'd almost say Arkansas was that game. But we probably do need another. And I suspect we have one, just have to hope we come out on top.

The difference in this season is that a frustrating loss (Notre Dame) did not cause a spiral into further losses that would essentially end the season. Has the product been pretty? More often no, rather than yes. But the record has been preserved and frankly given this team realistic hope towards the post-season, which further motivates them to improve. The turning point from ugly to dominant product seemingly occurred in the Mizzou game

I had a lot of confidence Elko would turn this team around considering his body of work as a good DC at A&M. Then he took over a 3-9 Duke team and went 9-4 in the first season. Jimbo was an underachiever and Elko is an overachiever. Bill Snyder was an overachiever with lesser talent. However, Elko must have been tickled at the talent he was inheriting and the cherry-picked players from the transfer portal. I did not know nor expect the acceleration of the improvement of the team considering the Notre Dame game.

Perhaps I can use an analogy from my Army days. To execute missions well entails that soldiers are trained in their individual tasks. That is a must. Then train as a unit or team until we get it right. What I am seeing is the individual skill of the players have improved upon seeing game films. I am encouraged because Elko knows how to coach up the players and the team.

I am very optimistic because the defense is salty, and the OL is vastly improved. It can open holes for the RBs and give Weigman time to pass accurately. I felt like the offense and defense this year would help us go from 7-6 from last season to 9-4 this season, but I am starting to think I am underestimating the team.

Nice post Boston. I agree wholeheartedly. Let's just hope the team stays focused at Miss State next Saturday. Could be a potential trap game. We have not played well there in the post Manziel era.

The difference between this season and last season is 1.

The difference increases incrementally the farther back in seasons you go.

For me, a big difference is all the transfer players making big contributions: Nic, Cashius Howell, Will Lee, Scooby, Reed-Adams, Dezz, Rodas Johnson, the center whose name I can't spell....and many more.

I like this because so many 5* and 4* left the team last year, and I was afraid the team would never recover.

Not having Alabama, Georgia or a good Auburn team on the schedule is the difference. Better chance of not being worn down for tu and LSU

If you go back and watch the ND game now some of throws CW made are midboggling.

Then again, he had a wtf throw against missou but Bussey saved him. I'm just not 100 percent sure if he knows how to read a defense completely versus scanning a few targets and then just getting rid of it.
