What is concerning with the defense is this is 4th game and basic fundamentals are still lacking.. staying at home/setting the edge is middle school level stuff yet we can't do it against BG???

its not that its the concepts we run don't lend themselves to run open down field... we run down field concepts to open up underneath concepts... its a funky way of doing things.
none of them are fast enough to get behidn the defense though, or if they are we have yet to see it
ya no, they are running clear out routes not climb routes, or beater routes, or post, post-corner routes,... its very obvious they aren't the targets in some of these schemes... which is its own issue that even I can see that.
Also we haven't ran a dagger route (seam dig) that was the big play we hit moose on vs Florida. It feels like we get stuck on a concept for stints of the game.

I don't understand why the expectation is that a perennially 8-4 team cans their coach and then somehow kills it in the portal, recruiting, retaining players, and then immediately exceeding where we were at under the previous regime.

Obviously, I'd like to be crushing BGSU right now, but it is ridiculous that people are acting as if things are the same when Elko's tenure is so young and we are using a backup QB.

That's why we're like this. Quit making excuses for any reason. We don't pay coaches to have poor years before then miraculously winning championships. The cupboard hasn't been bare here for a long long time now
