With the season finally over, we close the lid on this phase of the SEC. The final records of all teams during this time are:

#1. Alabama (89.9%, 151-17)
#2. Georgia (82.2%, 134-29)
#3. LSU (71.4%, 110-44)
#4. Texas A&M (64.2%, 97-54)
#5. Florida (62.3%, 91-55)
#6. Ole Miss (59.1%, 88-61)
#7. Mississippi State (57.5%, 88-65)
#8. Auburn (57.1%, 88-66)
#9. Missouri (57.0%, 86-65)
#10. Tennessee (55.0%, 82-67)
#11. South Carolina (53.3%, 80-70)
#12. Kentucky (50.0%, 75-75)
#13. Arkansas (40.8%, 60-87)
#14. Vanderbilt (37.2%, 54-91)

While Texas A&M did not hit many of its goals during this time, we finished a respectable fourth place. This is impressive enough given the clear dominance of the SEC during this period.

Other notable results are the dominance of the SEC West, with 6 of the 7 teams in the division finishing in the top 8 of the conference, including both Mississippi schools finishing in the top half.

Newcomers OU and tu are not included for obvious reasons, but strictly by numbers OU (78.3%, 123-34) would place between Georgia and LSU and tu (59.2%, 90-62) would be essentially tied with Ole Miss. I will leave it to the wisdom of the zoo how much any of that matters.

We're the highest place record for a team with no conference or national championships.

This. The data can by skewed based on strength of mon-conference schedule. Would be interesting to see impact (perhaps none, but would be an appropriate view).

Consistently avg pays off for something like this, and having just 2 head coaches compared to others on this list.

Really good at going 4-4, with just Johnny's year, covid year and 22 as good seasons.

I have a feeling many here would trade with uf/mizzou, who had a few awful years, but also made the conference title games.

Honestly, not much changed other than East teams (see Florida, Missouri, and South Carolina) getting more credit for their relatively weaker schedules when you take out non-cons:

#1. Alabama (89.8%, 88-10)
#2. Georgia (81.4%, 79-18)
#3. LSU (65.3%, 64-34)
#4. Florida (58.2%, 57-41)
#5. Texas A&M (53.6%, 52-45)
#T-6. Auburn (48.0%, 47-51)
#T-6. Missouri (48.0%, 47-51)
#8. Ole Miss (46.4%, 45-52)
#T-9. Mississippi State (43.9%, 43-55)
#T-9. South Carolina (43.9%, 43-55)
#11. Tennessee (39.8%, 39-59)
#12. Kentucky (35.7%, 35-63)
#13. Arkansas (24.5%, 24-74)
#14. Vanderbilt (21.6%, 21-76)

Thanks for doing this! Pretty interesting. I honestly assumed that we would be closer to 6-7 rather than 4-5.

Arkansas was by far and away the most negatively impacted by SEC expansion.
Well, expansion and a motorcycle accident.

interesting data

A&M's dominance over Arkansas (11-1) and South Carolina (9-1) really skews the conference record

Are you saying we skewed our conference record by beating conference teams? You know, the entire West plays Arkansas every year and the entire East plays both South Carolina and Vanderbilt. It sounds like you're looking for a reason to be negative.

53.6% in conference stinks. Wonder what our record was against teams from Mississippi - not good enough for sure.

For being 4th on that list it sure seems like we got punked quite often by the 6th and 7th place teams.

This is excellent information and paints a clearer and better picture than many of the pot bangers would admit to.

Yes. Not what we were and are looking to achieve since we joined the SEC - but does put things in perspective relative to the other teams in the conference.

Would actually be interested in seeing the same data from the SEC (including overall and conference records) from the same number of years leading up to and ending with the first year of Nick Satan's tenure at Alabama - which obviously would NOT include the Ags.

THEN during the exact same period listed for that second SEC analysis - get the same thing for the Big 12 (which WOULD inlcude Texas A&M).

Finally would like the same time chunks for the same number of years for both SEC and Big12 (might go back into SWC) for the years PRECEDING that second time period analysis.

I like this kind of data - but I'm too lazy to out it together myself (and I have a day job).

Hopefully some retiree or independently wealthy poster (on the Zoo? - yeah. Right) with time on their hands can put this together for me.

Thanks in advance!

Would also be interesting to see our head-to-head against each SEC team since joining.

This really brings me little consolation. we couldn't even win the damn SEC west once!

That alone was what really kept us from being a Tier 1 team in the SEC.

We rarely, if ever swept both. So if you added just 1 win a year by beating 1 or both of them each year. the numbers would look so much better.

Taking away 12 losses and adding 12 wins by dominating the Mississippi schools would put us at 64-33 and percentage points ahead of LSU for 3rd.

In all honesty, the record against the Mississippi schools was really both Sumlin's and Jimbo's undoing.

I've pointed to the records every time 90% of people on here say Missouri had more success than A&M in the SEC.

Not only is A&M's overall and conference record better. They played in the tougher SEC division!

People like trophies and they have more division ones. They have just been awful instead of mediocre in their bad years. We each have 2 top 10 seasons, and a 2-2 recorded vs each other. Each have a ny6 and pre those cotton bowl wins.

yes, going a step further...

I believe A&M is a staggering 26-3 against the bottom 5 teams on the list (Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Vandy)

which means the Ags are 26-42 vs. the top 9 teams (excluding A&M of course)

Awesome! So we OWN the bottom third of conference.

NOW let's own that middle third as well (while maintaining dominance against the bottom third).

THEN at least break 50-50 OR BETTER against the top third (which, for now, i will call Georgia, Bama, LSU, tu and a rotating number 5 - not including us - like Oklahoma, Ol Miss, Mizzou, Florida or Tennessee - depending on the year) - which should mean 10+ win seasons going forward - and competing for a spot in the CFB playoffs every year!
