53.6% in conference stinks. Wonder what our record was against teams from Mississippi - not good enough for sure.
We went 6-6 (4-2 home and 2-4 road) against Mississippi State and 5-6 (1-3 home and 4-3 away) against Ole Miss. Kevin Sumlin went 4-0 against the Mississippi Schools with Johnny Manziel, but he went 2-6 after Manziel left. Similarly, Jimbo Fisher went 4-1 against the Mississippi Schools with Kellen Mond, but 1-5 after Mond left.

In 12 years, we finished with a winning conference record just 3 times (6-2 in 2012, 5-3 in 2018, and 8-1 in 2020). We posted a 4-4 SEC record 7 times (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023), 3-5 in 2014, and 2-6 in 2022. Outside of Alabama, Georgia, and LSU, we have the best record at 97-54 (0.642), but Florida has a better conference record of 57-41 (0.582) to our conference record of 52-45 (0.536). That's because Florida has posted a winning conference record 6 times (2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020) in the same span, including SEC East division titles in 2015, 2016, and 2020.

Jimbo Fisher's SEC record is 27-21 (0.5625), which is slightly higher than Kevin Sumlin's 25-23 (0.521). Sumlin was fired for his inability to win SEC home games, and Jimbo was fired for his inability to win road games.

Jimbo Fisher went 16-6 (0.727) in SEC home games, including 10-5 (0.667) against SEC West teams. In contrast, Kevin Sumlin went 8-14 (0.571) in SEC home games. Even worse, he went a putrid 3-12 (0.200) in home games against SEC West teams, including a 7-game losing streak at the end of his tenure.

However, Jimbo Fisher went 7-14 (0.333) in true SEC road games. Even worse, he went a putrid 3-11 (0.214) in road games against SEC West teams, including a 6-game losing streak at the end of his tenure. In contrast, Kevin Sumlin went 13-9 (0.591) in true SEC road games, including 9-8 (0.529) against SEC West teams.

interesting data

A&M's dominance over Arkansas (11-1) and South Carolina (9-1) really skews the conference record

Everything skews everything! We also played in the hardest division in college football. And played the SEC East 2nd best team (FL) 5 times.

South Carolina finished square in the middle of the East teams- we just played very well against them. We had very few games against KY and Vandy.

In 12 years and almost 100 conf games, the results are valid. We competed well, but never could clear the hump of BOTH LSU and BAMA in the same year. THAT was the difference in us not going to the SEC C- game.

What this really shows (and most already know) is that A&M is not that far off. In hindsight, we see the flaws in Fisher that kept us just out of reach. Here's hoping Elko overcomes.

Arkansas was by far and away the most negatively impacted by SEC expansion.
Well, expansion and a motorcycle accident.
Arkansas was by far and away the most negatively impacted by SEC expansion in 1990. They were the original "Nebraska to the Big 10" when reminiscing about prior pedigrees.

Sure the SWC and Big 8/12 were on borrowed time, but for those two storied programs those were the happy days, the salad days as they say.

(Jokes aside regardless of success (or lack thereof) on the field you make the jump for economic reasons whether Arkansas, Nebraska, Maryland, Mizzou, A&M, USC, Texas, UCLA, OU, UW, etc.)
