More like SOC. Based purely on what the SOC coaches wear. They just need the lollipop.

DeSoto probably should be Div 1.

Very big difference between the two.

Theres a reason the Katy Tigers try to ensure their enrollment typically keeps them Div 2.

When the playoff brackets came out I saw DeSoto was placed in Div 2. I was like, yikes, that one's an easy one to pick.
Aledo vs DeSoto is going to be an amazing rivalry if DeSoto gets regulated down to 5A.

2732 students at DeSoto. Doesn't sound like 5A.

The will be 5a. They are losing tons of kids. Just not football players.

3400 in 2018 to 2700 in 2022. They turned in 2127for the next realignment.

Wow. Heading the direction of the old FW schools like Dunbar, Trimble Tech, Poly, Northside, and OD Wyatt.

SOC vs PNG is going to be a nail biter.
This is the game I'm most looking forward to.

I think PNG gets revenge and upsets SOC with a last minute field goal.
PNG 30
SOC 28

PNG should have won last year. They could have held that lead in the 2nd half, but the constant pressure from the SOC defense caused them to collapse.

If they hold their composure they could possibly beat South Oak Cliff. SOC has the athletes to score very quickly when they need to...on offense or defense.
SOC is the last school to beat Aledo in the playoffs.
Im gonna go ahead and pat myself on the back for this one.

SOC will be back in this game next year, but I knew their poor play would catch up to them at some point.
They should have won that game going away, but they had too many stretches of poor play that let PNG hang around until they took the game.

Could we be seeing another North Shore-Duncanville type of rivalry? SOC-PNG is now tied up with each side winning a game.
That game (with the onside kick recovery) kind of reminded me of Super Bowl 30 between Pittsburgh and Dallas.

This game could easily be 46-0 at the Half.
It looks like DeSoto vs Southlake was the real State Championship Game in Division 2.

This is one of those years that the Division 2 State Champion is better than any school in the larger school Division 1 bracket.

I would take the DeSoto Eagles over North Shore, Westlake, Aledo, Duncanville.....anyone else in the state. I haven't seen any other school as good as DeSoto.

If PNG isn't the end of the world, it must be close. I went on a mission trip last summer. Was roofing on a house with 6 layers of shingles in a 114 heat index. I used to think Wichita Falls was the end of the world, but Port Arthur may be the real deal. Either way, if you love either place, you're obviously from there.

Halftime.

I never trust Humble ISD schools in big football games. DeSoto has too much speed.

The results of todays title games will be:
Dallas 2
Golden Triangle 1
Houston 0

Safe to say that DeSoto will win their 2nd straight State Championship.
In some years we wonder what would have happened if the Division 1 Champion played the Division 2 Champion.

This year we don't have to wonder.
This years DeSoto team is now making a case for an all time great Texas high school football team,
This DeSoto team is up there with 83 Dangerfield when it comes to dominance from start to finish of a high school football season.

Until Katy ( the town/ school district ) figures out how to get most of the west side talent at the same school Dallas schools will keep rolling.

That was a complete domination last night.

Did anyone hear Ken Purcell, the retired coach in the cowboy hat who's on these telecasts every year, say Aledo's record run is due to "build it and they will come", and that they "don't recruit".

Again, I don't live up there and I'm not around this stuff daily, but I thought those comments would raise a few eyeballs. Why mention that in the first place?
Lets be real here. Every school that's in the state Semi-Finals and Finals every year for the past 20-30 years is recruiting at some level.

"Recruiting" typically means identifying which 12-14 year old boys are trending like they are going to be huge, and getting them to move to your high school attendance zone.
Its been going on forever.

Every school does it in some sort of fashion. Kid might live in a suburb with 3 high schools. One of them is great at football, and the other two are mediocre.

The above averagely talented kid will probably choose to go to the better football school because he knows he will get superior coaching, and have a better chance at a scholarship. In some places its quite easy to move to an apartment complex in that suburb or city.

How does Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics end up winning two state championships for Flower Mound Marcus? Things that make you go hmmmm......

Truth be told it doesn't really bother me all that much. The only schools I don't respect are the gigantic ones like Allen and Plano ISD that stay absurdly big for the sole purpose of being good at sports.
Having 5,000 to 7,000 kids to pull from is an absurd advantage over normal sized high schools.

I know more about the Marcus Smart situation when he was in HS than most people. I won't go in to specifics here other than to say the HS he left filled out a Previous Athletic Participation Form and marked "no" when asked if he moved for athletic purposes. Whether the mark was based on bad or incomplete info, or for nefarious or other purposes, well, I have no information on that one way or another.

I'm not sure how kids moving around affect sports like football. Does it happen? Sure. Is it motivated by "recruiting?" Possibly. I believe it goes on far more in other sports like basketball. The reason nothing gets done about it is largely because, like in the Smart situation, the former school accepts it and moves on. Then, there is nothing to see, nothing to do about it. Why do they do that? A possible answer is that they themselves are doing much the same thing. The other reason is that many coaches do not want to get a bad reputation among their peers for blowing the whistle, so to speak on other coaches. They'll put up with this crap, they may even bad mouth them among other coaches they talk to, but they won't go PUBLIC to make a fuss about it. Even if the complaining coach is 100% in the right.

You want to stop it? Easy. Stop allowing coaches all the power in Texas HS sports. This will solve or at least help with a myriad of problems from things like recruiting to officiating. Chances of happening? ZERO. People talk about college sports and NIL causing a short shelf life. HS sports and the problems they have are far worse.

Oh, and size isn't that big of a deal. Of the 10 largest high schools in Texas (as of 2022), only Duncanville and GPNS have won recent state championships and only Allen, Permian, and The Woodlands have had recent playoff success. The rest, the Plano schools, Odessa, and Conroe have been anywhere from bad (Plano West) to mediocre at best. Going down from there you have schools like Coppell and Lewisville, admittedly playoff teams, but you also have teams like Arlington Sam Houston, Flower Mound, and Hebron, non-playoff teams most years (or 4th place at best). None of these teams have come anywhere near a state semifinal game in a long time. (Hebron won state at, I think, the 4A level when 5A was tops).
