Year after year, East Texas schools consistently dominate the rest of the state in elite teams.

This year is especially true.

I remember when Midland Lee, Odessa Permian, Abilene always had teams in the State Finals or Championship games.

In todays world its rare to see a team from West Texas do anything at the state level. East Texas still puts out some great teams, but West Texas hasn't been the same since Cedric Benson and Eric Winston were winning state for Midland Lee.

I mix it up game to game. Usually get to club level and try to get close to the 50-yard-line. I don't care so much about what side I'm on anymore. Usually you'll be surrounded by groups that have been there since Wednesday watching all the games.

There's still a fracking boom going on out in the Permian basin but I guess those more transient workers aren't bringing families with talented high school athlete kids like they did in the 70s and 80s.
