All depends on portal loses. If the team stays intact why would anything less than what Jimbo did this year be acceptable? There is a lot of talent on this team.

Jimbo didn't leave the cupboard empty. And with NIL support, there's no reason Elko shouldn't be able to put together a strong roster immediately.

The conversation of it takes 3 to 5 years to build a team is no longer valid as a nimble HC should be able to raid the portal. That's why we pay the big bucks.

they did and deserve credit for winning at bama. that said if they played today i think the outcome would be different. bama and especially milroe are light years better than they were 10 weeks ago. not to say texas hasn't improved either but bama is significantly better than they were early in the year.

(to answer OP's Q: ) for sure, in terms of W-L. Especially with someone who brings as much finesse as Elko to developing players, I think he'll get a solid 4 years at least as long as there's a case that can be made for steady improvement.

If you want to look for the cloud inside this silver lining...I'd say the very first checkpoint that Elko will need to clear is recruiting. With our NIL $$ and track record, and our recent experience (Addazio's Bozos nws) translating recruiting excellence into on-field performance, anything outside of top 10 classes every year will heat up Elko's seat before anything else.

But to be fair, I think Elko's recruiting success is much more of a sure thing than any new coach's on-field success could ever be. What Elko himself brings to the table (personality, track record, culture, etc.) is just fine. Even better news is that it's also critical to have outstanding recruiting operations, and our program knows a thing or two about that. The scary news is that the operations side fell apart under our very noses ~1 year ago.

Less than 8 wins would be suspect of coaching issues if the roster stays intact, which I believe it will. 9 wins is a healthy and reasonable expectation, but 10 or 11 is within reach and not crazy.

I did not want Jimbo fired but I'm of the opinion that every new HC should be allowed 5 years minimum. Maybe 4 if there's something egregiously bad about their early tenure. 11 wins by year 3 would be fantastic.

9 wins next season will make me happy. Maybe I'm just old and impatient, but I really don't want to hear about how Elko "doesn't have his guys yet". We SHOULD win 10 games per year. That's a huge expectation but achievable.

I think improved OL play and a four man front on defense will make a tremendous difference. Throw in some basic football and midgame adjustments and year 1 could be surprisingly good.
