The premier league of a sport is also not just determined by money. The strength of a sports league, as long as its solvent, is displayed by the talent on the field. The way for the Big Ten to be the dominant conference is on football fields not in their pocketbooks. Sure money is a factor, but you cant buy wins. Having the richest athletic department is more like having good recruiting classes. Its a good start, but it doesnt mean you're winning a national championship.

To win in football still involves, you know, winning football games, even at the level of competition among conferences. If the Big Ten loses every time they play an SEC team for example, it wont matter one iota that the Michigan athletic department makes more money, players will go to the league where the perceived best teams are, and in a professional situation, where they are paid the most (which is NOT the same thing, especially under the current interpretation of NCAA and NIL rules, as which school is getting paid the most.)

I hate all of the consolidation, but A&M needs to seriously consider moving to the Big 10 as well. It's all about dollars at this point and the Big 10 has teams in all of the major markets except Texas, Georgia and Florida. The amount of dollars coming into the Big 10 will dwarf the SEC. For the most part the schools are better in academics than the SEC schools and the Big 10 fans are way classier than the SEC fanbases. Plus a nice middle finger to the SEC for backdoring us with Texas.
Ummm... Penn State and Ohio State fans are some of the worst I have ever met. While ND isnt in the B1G, they have the same northern vibe... Totally lost any credibility on this idea with that "classier" bit.
Thats fair. I was probably a little heavy handed saying they are classier. I have found the Big 10 fans to be more respectful than SEC fans on average based on the games I have attended. There are nice people everywhere, but some fanbases are a little rougher than others.

Can we agree A&M fans are classier than Tech fans at least?

Do you think the Big10 is going to sit pat and not try to change this dynamic? Historically the SEC is better, I hope it stays that way, but at some point the money always wins.

Just need to add FSU to SEC to keep Big 10 out of Florida.

You look down Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and the Southeast, you are going to own college football.

If the Big 10 gets FSU and Clemson, we should 100% reach out to the Big 10 and see if they're interested in the Texas market. The money for us would be insane. Sankey is an absolute dip**** clown.

There's a lot of dumb opinions in this thread.

The SEC is somehow falling behind? The Big 10 is single-handedly killing a 100-year old conference.
The SEC STARTED this by taking 2 of the biggest CFB brands there are, and didn't annihilate a conference to do it.

A&M needs to join the Big 10?? Why on earth?

I don't think these are necessarily dumb opinions. The idea that the Pac would fold and the Big12 would flourish would have been a totally stupid opinion back in December, much less the last decade. I think the new rule is a) there are no rules and b) you better be fluid and willing to hop on a moving train or you're going to get left not only behind, but for dead.

I think A&M would be very smart to explore a move to the Big 10. I'm not saying it should be something to jump on immediately or sell out for, but for us to keep our options open on. As someone said on another thread, t.u. has a habit of destroying conferences. They all but destroyed the SWC by ratting out others to the NCAA while essentially doing what the other schools (except maybe SMU) were doing -- in fairness to them, they had help there; they tanked the Big 12 with their network; now they're in the SEC and who knows what's next. A certain amount of fear for A&M is healthy.

If we don't look out for our own interests, no one else will. Its idiotic not to.

Wahhhhhhhh. You sounds like a real crybaby.

Who cares about the elitist, snotty nosed B1G schools academics? The kids graduating from Auburn, Florida, OM, Tennessee and Arkansas hold their own. And who wants to live in Michigan, Illinois or Ohio anyway?

Big 10 foot print looks pretty stupid. We need to add Nort Carolina and Virginia Tech stat.

The second we leave, tu will bill itself as the only SEC school in Texas, just like we have for a decade.

I would expect our recruiting would suffer some, even with NIL.

One thing the BIG 10 did that was brilliant was put its product on the same networks as the NFL. Even with cable cutting every football fan will have those channels, though they might eventually have to do a direct to consumer app for Big Ten Network, FS1 and FS2, just like ESPN is working on.

"California added 119,000 millionaires in the last 2 years alone. Miami actually lost 80,000 residents last year. There is growth in the south, but is it people who will cut NIL checks? I am not so sure."

The people in California are more interested in futbol than cfb. I know. My daughter went to UCLA against my wishes and never went to a single game.

This HAS to be one of the dumber takes I've seen on this board…and that's saying something….

We need to up-and-leave the PREMIER athletic conference in the entire nation because you believe we've been "slighted" by Sankey for taking the 'sips next year??? Am I reading that right???

Is my take dumb now? How's that working out for us?
