Is today the day that we get FSU and Clemson?
They have no leverage to not lose what they haveā¦other than staying in the ACC for 13 more years of hard labor and everyone remembering their tantrum.ntxVol said:
Nothing happening here, FSU just making noise in an attempt to get an unequal share of ACC revenue. But they have no leverage to get what they want.

In your opinion, what would the reasoning be for them not leaving? ACC restructuring the money?
They are leaving. The question is when, not if. There are 2 possible answers to that question and they end in 4 and 5.
I mean the season they will begin play in their new conference.
August 15th is still a go.

Everyone talks about how easy it is to get out of a contract. Well, I've got news for you: when you know that it is a real possibility, you draft the contract with that in mind. After a few rounds of realignment, the lawyers have gotten better at drafting these things. Short of the ACC dissolving or some kind of wholesale reorganization of college football, it's not likely that FSU or Clemson go anywhere this decade. They should take a look at where the Pac 12 has ended up, and be thankful that they are in a stable league with the 3rd best TV contract. Their situation could be much worse. Circle the wagons, and do what it takes to remain competitive, and they will find a landing place eventually, but it's just not going to be on their timetable.

still not sure why schools like FSU and clemson would sign such a long grant of rights or any grant of rights.
I can see the lesser teams wanting it to keep teams like clemson and fsu from bolting, but why would fsu and clemson have signed that?

Basically, today is an incredibly different world from 10 years ago when they signed it. The SEC and B1G weren't as powerful and wealthy, there was no playoff, no NIL none of the things that makes Power 2 membership what it is today.
But FSU and Clemson can see that the Top 25 brands are all being consolidated in the Power 2 and as the last 2 besides Notre Dame outside that structure, they want in

Wanted to share an update.
Arizona is heading to the Big 12 in the next week or two. Not a huge surprise for some.
The big one is Florida State is announcing they are heading to the Big 10 over the next two weeks. The real shocker is that Clemson may be going with them now.
Clemson was very unhappy from a recent meeting with ESPN and FOX is willing to fund the bill.
Unless ESPN comes back to the table with $, the SEC's loss is the Big 10's gain.
August 15th is the deadline to watch.

Once this heated up it slowed down FSU's process. Divided the league as the tweet said.
The ACC will not be an 18 team league soon. Stanford, Cal, and SMU are joining.

ACC will add Stanford, Cal & SMU in 2024, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. The leagueās presidents got the required 12 of 15 votes to expand the ACCās football membership to 17 schools. SMU will not receive any media rights revenue for 1st 7 years, while Stanford & Cal will receiveā¦

2036. That's when the ACC will need more members. Not next year, or the year after, or any year this decade.Toptierag2018 said:Showstopper said:

" One reason ACC added Stanford, Cal & SMU is ESPN's media rights deal w/ACC allows ESPN to renegotiate if league drops below 15 members, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. W/potential future departures of FSU, Clemson & UNC - all who voted against expansion - ACC wanted to get P5 schools now opposed to G5 schools later to maintain required membership number"

" Clemson and Florida State have "already decided to leave" the ACC. If either of these two schools are in the ACC in 2026 would go against everything that is known behind closed doors. When Maryland was added to the Big Ten, FSU was provided the things that they needed to work on in order to get into the Big Ten in future years. FSU has done a great job since then. They have done such a good job that FSU had the Big Ten have had back channel communications going on for two years now. While no formal offer can come until FSU exits the ACC, FSU knows they have a home in the Big Ten if they want it. Communication betwen the two really picked up around October of 2022 and has increased since then. I don't have any knowledge of the SEC side of things.
Clemson, to my knowledge, has had two "meetings" with back channels since October as well and had an important meeting during the Kentucky Derby.
Several people behind closed doors have mentioned that Clemson and FSU are going to announce in a few weeks (this fall) or in the spring around March and April. Timing is always a fluid thing. While I know the info is coming from people who know things, we just have to wait and see.
FSU and Clemson are independent moves but I'd be surprised if they don't join the same conference together. At least as of today. "
Either explain how Clemson and Florida State are going to buy their way out of the grant of rights or shut up. Your credibility went to zero on August 16.Quote:
