Jake Mathews, Sam Adams, Greg Hill, Robert Ferguson, Kevin Smith, Myles Garrett, Kenyon Green, Luke Joeckel, Aaron Glenn

Off the top of my head. Those were all big recruits that did well. I would say Dat as well. Contrary to the mythology of this board, Dat was a big time recruit.

Dat, von, Garrett, Joekel ifedi matthews , McNeal, swope, safeties, OL, DL usually meet expectations

Recent: Evan Stewart looking really good even at spring game he will possibly make it, demani richsrdson

Overachievers: Manziel Evans

Mike Evans was no overachiever. He was an NFL receiver coming out of Galveston Ball. Anyone who actually saw him play and new what they were looking for knew he was one of the best players in his class in America.

The fact that Evans was not "rated" as high by the media was more a reflection on the poor quality of media experts as opposed to the ability of the player.

His offer list would indicate that major coaches disagree with you.

Was going to say that. He had - ONE D1 offer?

Kinda funny that after he hit it big, there were all sorts of average basketball players showing up on high school football fields all over Texas. Some of these 6'-8" wide receivers looked so funny out there.

Turns out most just couldn't shoot a basketball - they couldn't catch a football either.

Didn't Evans not play football until his senior year? I think that's why he had no offers. Still though, he was definitely overlooked coming out of high school by the media and other coaches.

After only playing his senior year at Ball, with only 25 receptions, Evans was never going to be highly rated; ergo, he overachieved in his entire collegiate career in comparison to his expectations.

I'm not sure where to start with your inclusion of Richardson. Richardson was a top 100 recruit which is awesome but I don't think he came in with a lot of hype. Also, Richardson has been a nice, solid player but I don't think he has been anything that will be remembered for generations. Maybe we differ on hype but to me guys like Myles Garrett are hyped and live up to it. Richardson doesn't fall into that category.

Richardson came in with a lot of hype. Maybe not quite Myles Garret hype because he's a top 2-3 prospect any given year. But he was certainly a hyped recruit

Richardson is not on pace to be drafted or very late-rounder at best. Maybe he'll have a better senior year. He's gotten better at pass-D despite lack of quickness, but he plays patty-cake when tackling near the sideline every time.

Kyle Allen did not live up to his collegiate expectations. Neither here nor at Cougar High. But the NFL gave him a shot based on his measurable. Good for him for making a career of it. It would be revisionist history to say he had a good college career.

Sort of like Ken Hall. That was a bit different, though, in that he left us on the way to Junction.

No, he didn't. He and JDC were freshmen that year. They did not make the trip to Junction. They played on the freshman team. Hall played, albeit sparingly, several seasons on the varsity afterwards before quitting.

No, more on the fact that he was a basketball player and only played football his senior season

Can't really get behind Trey Williams living up to the hype. Thought he would be so much more but was horribly underutilized by Sumlin.

Think this can be further separated as just because a player didn't translate into NFL player (a NFL star or long term NFL player) doesn't mean they didn't live up to the hype/expectations (and then define hype as great for A&M or great in general or stats vs expectations).

Of course JFF is an easy example of great college and better than expected, but NFL bust for a variety of reasons.

But many on the list that were great college players for A&M regardless of expectations.

Rodney Thomas, Greg Hill....

Do recall Randy Simmons being a huge recruit (maybe top RB in Texas at the time) and he never truly panned out (can't remember if injury).

Randy Simmons blew out his knee in a high school all-star game after his senior year and never regained his form. He was also in the same class as Darrin Lewis who went on to become A&M's all-time leading rusher.
Both Simmons and Lewis were Top 5 backs in the country that year. So I guess you could say Lewis panned out (at least at A&M). His troubles started shortly thereafter.
