Cheer is a scholarship sport at many big schools, even though it doesn't count for Title IX. Does A&M even recruit?

The yell leaders don't embarrass me, but they definitely do embarrassing things. The older I get and the more years that pass, the harder and harder those guys are to watch. They're just cringe-worthy to the highest degree.

This. They just come across as very average individuals, whose egos make them think they're more than they really are. I think they really used to be campus leaders who represented the best of A&M. They just seem like mediocre caricatures these days.

To be honest, since it was often one of the ways for women to get distracted from participating in sports and mostly they turned it into an athletic competition the grousing about reeks.

Maybe the right answer is to let them in the field and quit stalling. Or maybe for them to file a suit like with the Corps, the FTAB, and the specialty units like RV and PMC.

It is apparent from these posts and other news from campus that those things that make A&M unique (Yell Practice, FTAB, Silver Taps, Muster, Student control, etc.) are going away and it will become just another Enormous State University. Sad.

74,000 students paying $30 - 35,000/year and can't even get in the major they want...pretty sure the train has left the station. I'm third generation. I've got 6 kids, and I'm oh-for-three on the first 3. A&M was a no-brainer for me. NMS, PES, only place I applied to. It's just hard to justify the value proposition any more when other schools offer more money, better opportunities, and don't close any doors to the future. Just telling it like it is - the Honors Program at any decent second tier state university can easily provide a better path for students who are self-motivated and thrive at being a bigger fish in a smaller pond, and don't want debt when they leave school.

Both can exist. I see no reason why the dance team can't be out there for stretches of time. I'm also pretty sure they've been out there before but for some reason neither TV or the university has wanted to lean into it.

It's actually unique that A&M has yell leaders, the dance team, AND a renowned marching band, plus the goodest girl in all sports (Lady Rev). Get 'em all out there and push it.

Amazing routine!

We got 20-30 girls who can do all sorts acrobatics, but we can't have an Aggie gymnastics team for 10-12 girls? What's the deal we can't afford a spring board or a pommel horse?

The yell leader routines have become progessively gayer over the decades. No wonder people are embarrassed. Quit trying to be your own version of the Village People and go back to just leading yells

I was going to say Refugio, Lockhart, or Crockett, but Muleshoe will also work.

What I don't get is why everyone can't just be happy for these ladies? They work hard at what they do and they represent our university very well. Be proud of them, be proud they're Aggies, and congratulate them for a job well done. How hard is it to do that instead of being a cranky, grouchy, grumpy sourpuss?

I blame Rick Perry. Now every Yell Leader wants to become a politician.

A bunch of yall are very cringe with wanting to eliminate some traditions. We don't need to eliminate Yell leaders or yells, or even midnight yell. I go to a football game, I'm there to watch the game. I do the yells. It's not hard to comprehend. I don't pay attention to cheerleaders on the sidelines, never have. Don't care. If you need to look at some pretty women, scope out your neighbors or use your phone.

We don't need to be like everyone else and I'm not bowing to the pressure.

Agree. Give me Mike Beggs, Tommy Stone, and Neil Adams. The dance routine done today before each yell is ridiculous.

Why can't we have both yell leaders on the student side and cheerleaders on the alumni side?

I have a daughter who is quickly rising up the ranks in competitive youth cheer, and will be receiving scholarship offers in college for this. Unless A&M has a scholarship cheer program, she won't be considering A&M as a potential school. We can add this without negatively impacting our traditions.

Maybe the National Championship Cheerleaders could teach a thing or two to the football team about winning if they were on the sidelines with the yell leaders. Just a thought.

This settles it. We need an all female yell leader crew.

Yell Leaders should just go to the cheer competition and get a NC trophy cause everybody that goes to competition gets a NC trophy.

That should bring peace back to A&M again along with tearing down the beveled T.

Tommy Stone '67. Head Yell Leader when I was a fish. An Aggies Aggie. But can you imagine one of Mr. Stones Ol' Rock and Raquell stories in YouTube today? The one where Ol' Rock tells Raquell we're gonna have to thumb it home comes to mind.

I doubt we ever have scholarships for cheerleading unless you can get an NIL deal or something.
