Why can't we find a way to incorporate them into the football (and even basketball) game day presentation?
Because 60 years ago a&m was all male.
I'm class of 87 and im all for eliminating yell leaders, ODs and the Aggie Band at away games and letting cheerleaders and the hullabaloo take over.
I'm class of '70 and I'm for leaving it alone, sip!
I'm class of '87 and '91, very conservative, love all the Aggie traditions, and come from a family of Aggies (by the way, where's your AgTag).
I'm not saying do away with the Yell Leaders. In fact, I believe the current gameday atmosphere has diminished the impact of the Yell Leaders (and Aggie Band) activity and their effect(s) on the games.
This Aggie Cheer Squad, in my humble opinion, would hopefully bring attention to a very attractive (the women are--don't want to even look at the guys), athletic and talented group that would hopefully have a POSITIVE contribution to the University and gameday atmosphere as their routines are very athletic and challenging. I will almost always be in favor of adding POSITIVE contributions to whatever I'm working on, than not in the name of staying traditional. It's not like we would be adding an unproven commodity. They've proven themselves time and time again by winning national championships.
Tell me the NEGATIVE impact(s) of adding the Cheer Squad to the gameday atmosphere would bring. Just saying it's against tradition, isn't one--or should I say is very weak.
I understand tradition, appreciate and respect tradition. There's a lot of sideline to share with the Yell Leaders and could hopefully bring more crowd participation.
Again, note the negative impact(s).
