Golf is generally four rounds on Thursday through Saturday.
Sam finished the second round today in 2nd place. The second round isn't over with golfers still playing and currently a weather delay. But with the inclement weather he's likely stay in second place going into the 3rd round. He's a fifth year senior at A&M and so still an amateur player.
The 2nd round is cut day and only those that make the cut will play Saturday and Sunday.
For the first and second rounds player are paired with each other randomly I think.
after the second round, players are paired again based on their standing.
So he would be in the final pairing tomorrow with the player in first, bruce koepka.
This would be the first time since 1958 that an amateur is in second place after the second around. historic.
He won the US Amateur last year, so he can play some golf.
the pressure will ratchet up tomorrow and Sunday. We'll see if he can hold up to it

Yesterday was the 1st Amateur in decades to have an opening round that was Boggie Free.
Young man from Madisonville, and believe I heard his Caddy is the A&M Golf Coach.

Charles Dickens (hehe) once wrote a book called a Tale of Two (2) Cities. Now if I were a writer and not a small business owner, I would make the sequel be A Tale of Two (2) Bennett's. Aka Sam and Stetson. Sam is a man of craft and character and wears his heart on his sleeve. Stetson is a wannabe chump who was never spanked as a child and it shows. He was also a student longer than me and I went to grad school!!
While we're on the topic, does anyone know if it's legal for an amateur golfer to accept NIL? My small business is growing rapidly and I would soon be interested in partnering up with some fellow Ags. TIA.

He's more like a place kicker. I understand he's a good athlete. He played HS basketball and he was so small at the time he got laughed at by the opposing team and fans. When the game was over, he was laughing. Evidently he could defend and pop three point shots
Oh that's cool. So if he wins does that make him not an amateur anymore? Even if he gets second he still gets lots of $$$ right?

He's an amateur. A player has to declare status prior to completion.
If you don't follow golf Sam winning the US Amateur was the greatest individual accomplishment of any Aggie athlete ever. The best players from around the world can qualify, not just Americans. He had to beat one after another after another in match play.

I was good friends with his dad and have known Sam since he was knee high to a short sheep. He is one of the most talented natural athletes you will meet. In addition to his golf skills, he was a tremendous short stop and point guard in high school. Good luck to him Saturday and Sunday.
I watched it on TV today and was enormously impressed with him. He's in the process of an amazing showing in this tournament. It's really something. And the announcers repeatedly mentioned TAMU and the Aggies.

It appears there are sponsors on his shirt and maybe hat. Hope somehow expenses can/are covered by those.

Yep! Coach is his caddy. Watching the coverage this evening they mentioned Bennett had only had ONE golf lesson in his life! Said he has no plans to ever hire a swing coach, ever!

Due to the weather, it likely the masters will be postponed today and the 3rd and 4th round played on Sunday and Monday. Today, one or two inches of rain is expected, but Sunday and Monday should be decent weather, but will be chilly.

Why the Stetson hate, guy grew up wanting to be a Bulldog QB he did what was needed to finally get a chance at his dream , with a little luck and solid play ( even if it was just as a game manager ) he got the starting job and won a bunch of games. Sam winning the US Amateur was considerably more difficult than say winning the Heisman. Winning that is a vote among the best 5 or so QB and RB on 10+ win teams. The AM requires you to beat multiple elite players from around the world head to head over several days without losing once.

Randy Matson, JD Crow, JFF, Athing Mu, Fred Kerley, Von Miller??
I'd argue Athing Mu probably has that. She's become one of the most dominating performers in Track and Field. Won 2 Gold medals at 19. Broke the American record in 800m at 19. 2022 World Champ in 800m. She also makes everything look incredibly easy
