you have to take your hat off to TCU they have earned this opportunity no doubt. but let's not act as if this isn't an anomaly? historical recruiting rankings and success go hand in hand

i will say over the last 30 days very few programs have done as well as we have. jimbo has reeled in some players recently.

Now let's do Bama/Georgia/Ohio State/Clemson versus TCU please.

It means something. If you are Alabama or Georgia, and you have a lot of guys leave, you still have guys behind them that can play. If you have mediocre recruiting the guys are forced to stick around until they are seniors, since most won't go to the nfl, which is better for a college football team. We have to do a better job of retaining upper classmen.

This. You can coach passionate players. But you can't coach good players to be passionate.

I am dumb for thinking Jimbo was done with recruiting high school commits. Man really is a workhorse in recruiting, even in his worst down years.

I'm not too sure, but I think we are actually top 10 when we factor in portal transfers also.

this comparison makes no sense.. apples and oranges. Excited to see someone else in the Championship game, but we know if TCU played in SEC, they're likely 8-4'ish… Not trying to take anything away from them, but they played one meaningful game (Michigan)… TCU played well and deserved to win.. but unless Georgia gives them 21 points like Michigan did, they likely get rolled next Monday.

Until we win more than 8 games in a season, it doesn't matter

for me, A&M would have a much better chance at 4-team playoff in Big 12… TCU ain't making playoffs in SEC.

Difference with TCU is the amount of 4th, 5th and 6th year players. It's a big deal for someone like Demani to come back for A&M whereas TCU has upperclassmen come back all the time

I completely agree with you that they are in a dog**** conf.

When I'm comparing Tcu to A&M this year it isn't about wins and losses.

One looks well organized and prepared during a game in all aspects of a game. While the other looked like a cluster-***k of confusion and disarray.

Not one of you would put money on TCU making it back to the playoffs next year.

I wonder why.......

TCU has done a great job in the portal picking up players off the bench at Power 5 teams. More power to them, as they are not a high school recruiting power. TCU's offer is playing time to players that don't have none.

I am going to take a course at TCU and become a horned frog .

Back to the topic- we are going to be really good this year!

TCU lost to Kstate for the big 12 title. Bama crushed K State. TCU upset an overrated Michigan. LSU destroyed Purdue today. Aggies beat LSU. Georgia struggled but beat Ohio. Big Ten embarrassed. Georgia crushes tcu. Frogs did well but won't be back for a while, if ever.

This is not some amazing epiphany that you had, I think everyone here will make the same choice.
However, last I checked, there is no field in the 247 or rivals site where you can get an indication of how "hungry" or how lazy a recruit is. A lazy kid generally does not become a 5*. There may be a few geniuses but those are exceptions.

The Portal has changed all of this. We typically lose players after their 3rd year and haven't utilized the portal like other schools.

2021: 6, Miss St, A&M, OU, Two were HS 4*
2022: 14,Ga, FSU, Sips (2), Missouri. Two were HS 4*
Coming:
2023: 4, two from Alabama, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Fl A 5* and 3 4*s

TCU started an incredibly old team.

On Offense, their 3 youngest players were Jrs. The rest were at least RS Jrs. 4 starters were Transfers (not included in your numbers).

On Defense, they had 1 Freshman. 3 Jrs as their 4 youngest players. The rest were at least RS Jrs. 5 starters were Transfers (not included in your numbers).

TL ; DR... 9 of the 22 starters for TCU were not part of your strength in recruiting.

TCU took great advantage of the Covid Rules. Players given a 6th year (two of their OL, at least), ability to offer more than 85 scholarships... Transfer Portal.

Kudos to them, but let's not pretend they are a team of 3*s

Who cares. It does us no good absent a coach who can actually develop and keep the talent.
