I think you're missing the context of the schools where he's getting winning records at. We're not talking tu, USC, or like schools with tremendous history and funding. The most impressive stint of his coaching in my career was taking WSU to 11-2 and getting a top 10 year end ranking. He ended with winning record in WSU after 8 years of coaching which is unbelievable given all the challenges.Quote:
I like Mike Leach just fine and I do sincerely hope he has a quick and full recovery, but I just don't get the "he's a great coach" line of thinking. He's been a head coach at Tech, WSU, and MSU for 20 seasons and his record is 158-107. While that's certainly respectable, it averages out to less than 8 wins and more than 5 losses per season. In his 20 year career, he's only lost fewer than 4 games two times (2005 at Tech and 2018 at WSU).
That's what I had heard too. Not sure if the heart attack part is related to that or just people assuming that's what happened.nu awlins ag said:
I read a few weeks back that he was battling pneumonia most of the season. Not sure if it is related to that. That is why he sounded so bad talking. This came from beat reporter for MSU on 247 I believe.

WSU and MSU have all time winning percentages of under .500, and TTU is .552. I'd say a career winning percentage of .596 is pretty good for having coached at those 3 schools. Will he ever win a national championship? Not likely - but he's done better than most everyone else at the schools he's coached.
Ugh. I hope this isn't true. But I'd have a hard time believing someone would make up that rumor. Just terrible.levypantsEOY said:

Just heard from buddy that apparently Leach is brain dead and family took him off life support.
Man, I hope that's not true. Ton of respect for that guy for doing things his own way and making the game of football more fun to watch over the years. Hated the butt-kickings, though.levypantsEOY said:

Best game I ever watched was in 2002 or 2003 when tech came to college Station and win by a point in OT.
That game was insane
That was the beginning of my BAS. Was a kid and I remember tearing up. But that was rough enough I probably would have teared up as an adult too.bigjag19 said:Agthatbuilds said:

October 5, 2002.
Painful. Missed extra point in OT.

I strongly recommend you get imaged and consider a genetics referral for Marfan's syndrome if you have an immediate family member who had aortic dissection. I've diagnosed several Marfan's over the years and saved three parent's lives who had a dissection and didn't know about it until I diagnosed their kid with Marfan's.Log said:
Aortic dissection killed my dad. Bad news if that's what happened to him. You've got seconds, minutes if you are lucky, if that's what happens to you.

I have the utmost respect for Mike and his honest approach to life…
My family and I were vacationing in Key West years ago.
We were hanging out at an outdoor patio one morning and he was there reading a book…
I recognized him and said Gig 'Em !! He came over for a few minutes and had some meaningless BS small talk…
He was as gruff, curmudgeonly, and as nice as you would expect… Never one to "coach speak"…
I'm pretty devastated by this… College Football always needs "characters" with solid skills…
Mike was brilliant..
