2023 El Campo five-star RB Rueben Owens commits to Texas A&M

The 2023 Texas A&M recruiting class just made a major addition to its offensive ranks today as five-star RB Rueben Owens‍ out of El Campo has given his verbal pledge to Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies.

Owens has been on the recruiting scene very early in his high school career and has been a top priority for the Maroon & White for the better part of three years now. He has made commitments to Texas and to Louisville, but the Aggies never wavered in their pursuit.

Owens rushed for an eye-popping 4,500 yards in his time at El Campo and averaged over 11.5 yards per carry for the Ricebirds. At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, Owens is a powerful runner that carries a long stride in the open field. He’s got an arsenal full of moves to wiggle free of traffic and possesses the requisite strength to run through arm tackles.

You don't want to compare a school who this year can offer 24 recruits by using the total added sum of stars. That's pretty ignorant. You want to compare apples to apples. Look at the AVERAGE stars of the players committed. Duh!

I love the confidence he shows while hitting the hole. He doesn't abandon the direction of the play. He stays where the play is designed to go, and accelerates through his cuts while the blockers do their job.

That o-line he runs behind is sick. Can we get a couple of them? at 2:17 66 pancakes a safety/LB. He was untouched for 75 percent of that video. Glad he is on board.

At 2:39 that TE pancakes 2 players in one block. Holy Cow!

Watching the highlights I was skeptical at first b/c the opponents all look like JV teams, but he certainly has size, speed, and knack for hitting the holes. His O-line also looks legit. Does El Campo just have more size across the board compared to the teams in their district?

His acceleration is twitchy fast.
He does a fantastic job of sidestepping to avoid a defender and never losing speed.
Very fluid and natural looking. Runs like a receiver in the open field.
Put 10 pounds on him for 4th and 1 and he will be all SEC.
