It's been said that he could go to any program but I REALLY wonder if that is actually true. I find it compelling the timing of Holstein's commitment to Alabama. I also really do wonder if Georgia cooled on him as well. I recall the story about Tate Martell visiting A&M after he had already committed to us. My understanding is that we(mainly Mazonne) had continued to watch film on Martell and decided he had no interest in him thank goodness..So from what I understand, Mazzone and Sumlin just ignored Martell and his family while he was at A&M on a visit. Martell got the message and the rest is history. He decommitted and proceeded to suck everywhere he went. One does have to wonder if more and more coaches have now had time to watch Manning's film and have decided they have ZERO interest in him. Texas(which is a desperate program with a desperate head coach) may actually be one of the few programs still interested in Manning(other than SMU types).

Oh my. The number one ranked player in the country was down to Texas and Smu types, lol. You can't make this stuff up folks.

Where was Tate Martell ranked? He was a 5 star. Coaches do their own assessments.

Not to mention-his top 5 was LITERALLY Bama, Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss and SMU. Bama and Georgia said HELL NO. Bama knows Holstein is WAY better than Manning, Genius..

He could have gone to ANY of them.

Wrong-actions speak louder than words. You tell me who is a better prospect-Manning or Holstein? If a program likes another QB better than Manning, why would they take Manning? That's like saying Tate Martell could have gone to any school he wanted. He was a HUGE name, had put up ungodly stars in high school, was a 5 star, was a top 10 ranked player but WE DID NOT WANT him. And now you see why! Elite programs see QBs in this class they like better than Manning. It's not that Manning is not good. It's simply that there are BETTER QBs in this class based on coaching evaluation. Simple as that..take off your burnt Orange glasses and tell me that Holstein, for example, is NOT better than Manning. You are crazy if you think Manning has a brighter future than Holstein..

I think you need to take off the glasses. Turned out a positive Tate Martell decommitted, but saying "we did not want him" is just silly. What color is the sky in your world? Who knows whether Holstein or Manning will be better. You certainly don't. I certainly don't. If I were betting ,I would say Holstein has a brighter future in college because he is going to Alabama. It is a total guess, but I would guess Manning has a brighter future in the NFL because has had the best advice and coaches since birth and because he can tap NFL experience at any time from several of his relatives. Why are we spending this much time talking about Manning anyway. We won't face him until the 2024 season.
Call me crazy, but when the OC ignores you and your family on multiple visits that's usually a clue that the team doesn't want you

Thank you for setting this straight, which is EXACTLY what I said in my original post but reading comprehension is hard for some. Thanks again, Good Sir.

This was interesting to research. Here's the #1 rated QB by year for a 10 year period. Pretty much every time the top guy is a name you might recognize, the second guy is also a 5-star that you've never heard of.

2006 - Matthew Stafford
2007 - Jimmy Claussen
2008 - Terrelle Pryor
2009 - Matt Barkley
2010 - Philip Sims
2011 - Jeff Driskel
2012 - Jameis Winston
2013 - Max Browne
2014 - Kyle Allen
2015 - Josh Rosen

Point being, it's hard to rate players. Look through the 247 composite ratings from a few years ago. Certainly a lot of 5-stars pop, but a LOT drift away into obscurity.

Absolutely and my point is that the only ones who do a better job of evaluating talent than the ratings services are ELITE coaches-such as the top 5 coaches in the country. I have been saying the top 5 coaches have their own ratings at each position and there are MANY times in which their collective evaluations differ substantially from the collective ratings of the ratings agencies. Thus, my one and only argument that a player who is rated #1 overall by Rivals or 247 CANT AUTOMATICALLY go anywhere he wants because of his #1 rating. As I have stated, I firmly believe coaches like Smart, Fisher, Saban, Day and Swinney have Manning rated differently than 247. That doesn't mean that Arch is not an outstanding player! It simply means that if THOSE COACHES have him ranked 5th on their QB evaluation, they aren't going to go through in signing him if they can sign any one of their top 4. This goes for all positions, not just QB. Again, I am not arguing about Manning's talent BUT I do absolutely believe top program head coaches have had time to do more due diligence and have begun to cool on him in favor of other QB prospects. That's all. This seems like common sense to me but perhaps I am being misunderstood or perhaps I have done a poor job illustrating my point..

And yes, WE DID IGNORE MARTELL AND HIS ENTIRE FAMILY IN ORDER TO GET HIM TO DECOMMIT. That is a true story.

Chris sims 2.0?

This is Simms x10. How often do you get a close relative of two super bowl champs plus Archie. This kid is going to be under a crazy microscope his entire career.
True. But, suspect he's been the subject of being watched/criticized his whole life. If you get anything out of the TV shows/commercials of the Mannings post retirement, is a family that is blessed, and doesn't allow that to go to their heads. Kudo's, but Archie was always under that microscope, and the boys saw it growing up.

I suspect the pressure is on Sark to get him an O-line, some receivers running backs and a Defense to take the pressure off of him.

But then again his family may in a great position to coach him thru the cr@p that may not be great around him.
You know like Ol Miss when Archie & Eli were there. Or the Saints while Archie was there.

Possibly 1 year in the B12, before facing SEC competition may also have helped. Now will Sark last his whole eligibility? How long will it take for tu fan to get impatient? Oh that's right, not very long.

One thing is that Arch picking Texas when he could write his own ticket anywhere makes me think winning football games is not his top priority, which makes me wonder how great he'll really be. I think that's one piece of how so many highly rated players don't pan out here - talented guys who care first and foremost about playing for the best coaches alongside the best players and bringing home the most hardware end up somewhere like Tuscaloosa. Talented guys who think spending their college years in Tuscaloosa doesn't sound very fun and would rather party and hang out in Austin end up at Texas. That makes a big difference.

Knowing that you are a sip, is this based on your observations of how things have played out in Austin over the last decade or so?

There certainly has to be some sort of team culture issue that turns top 10 recruiting classes into 5-7 teams.
Yeah that's what I'm saying. Some of these guys are overrated, sure, and some of them legitimately have freakish talent, but I think a lot of the ones we land are lured by the appeal of wearing a big-name brand on their helmet and being a BMOC in a city like Austin rather than some little college town. If they cared more about winning than having fun, they'd go somewhere else.

If he wants a big name brand and a big city, Austin provides neither of those. USC comes to mind. Miami also comes to mind but the tiny horns in a small town like Austin(of course I must admit Austin is the city in which I happen to love and have lived for 25 years right in the middle of downtown because I love the small town feel of it compared to LA and Greater Miami) so perhaps these kids think like me..Who knows?

I'm guessing you are being sarcastic since Austin is the 11th largest city in the U.S. and tu is one of the largest college "brands" in the country (as much as it hurts me to admit it).

I wish he was being sarcastic but I'm afraid he is serious.
