She can add absolutely zero value in this case. For a fact, she has never played baseball. And she sure as hell has never played it at the level she's coaching at right now. And every guy on the team she coaches knows it.

If you want to argue she's not qualified, that's fine. But to say somebody isn't qualified because they didn't play the game at the same level they're coaching is a really bad take.

What about at any level above little league?

Yes, her role exists only because she's a woman. And watching hundreds of giants games, I've concluded that no one really knows what she's actually a coach of. But her coaching first last night wasn't her role, as she went in out of necessity. And considering it was a blow out, it was a pretty ideal time to do what would have been inevitable anyway.
Cam Newton posts on texags?

Eh so you seriously think she would have that job if she wasn't a woman? Not to virtue signal? Again, her coaching position is a mystery to most people, and that isn't really what matters. I have no clue what she coaches, and honestly don't care. I know almost all the other coaches on the team and what they do, but after a few years with the team all anyone ever talks about her in relation to her position is that she's a woman. And she used to play softball, that is brought up occasionally. What matters is that she's the first woman coach, and the giants get to brag about that to the world. I am a huge giants fan, so I watch almost all the games and love the local broadcasts (thank you vpn), but no one ever comments on her work as a coach. Not once. Only that she's a woman and that she's the first. Shouldn't the work she does matter more than what she's got between her legs? I don't care if she's a woman, as long as she is there because she belongs there, not as a person to parade out there to say she's the first. And that she does a good job. Results are what matters, not being able to focus on things like this.

That said, she did a good job coaching first last night. So i have no reason to believe she can't do the job. I just wish they'd focus on that over what sex she is.

I dunno. I'm not a biologist

By that logic Mike Leach adds zero value to his teams since he never played football at the college level and all of his players know it! You can learn a sport without playing it. It isn't like the Giants just put her in the coaching staff she worked with the organization for years in health and wellness (so it can be assumed her role relates to strength and conditioning) she put in the hours and got promoted. She played softball and has a masters is sports management, which while not major league experience does make her adequately qualified to be a bench coach. She has also coached at first base in Spring Training prior to the Tuesday game. Are there better coaches more than likely, is she unqualified, to me that is a no.

Women have no business in men's sport!!!!! The ones that are, are nothing but tokens, if they are allowed then let Lia continue to swim. Women want it both ways!!
Apples and Oranges man, competing is way different than coaching, if she can add value to her team cool. Same goes for men coaching women's sports if they do good then cool.

This. Men coach women's sports all the time and no one bats an eye because they get results (Gary Blair and Geno Auriema to name a couple we're familiar with).

I think people overestimate how "woke" most sports franchises are. If this woman has gotten to a coaching position it's because she paid her dues and the FO sees value. From what others have said here she's been with the org for a number of years and only recently got a promotion to coaching.

Look at the Spurs for example, you think Pop keeps Becky Hammon around just to meet some imagined diversity quota? Naha, she's put in the work and demonstrated that she can help a team win like every other coaching staff at a well-run organization.

You are right. 100% right. Maybe not a token hire, but there's a lot of that going around right now. A LOT. As a straight white male my days of coaching sports might be over. Privilege really sucks. I didn't even get to use it.

Well, I know jack about who she is or what assistant coaches do in the MLB, but if we have FBS head coaches who's never played college football…

Pop probably tried really hard to find a woman who would be a great coach, but I have no doubt that he specifically went looking for a woman and was not going to hire a man for that job no matter what.
