We had a pretty dynamic QB in 2013.

Still went 8-4 both seasons

With him being so injury prone it is not a bad idea for him to go into a conference that is not as physical.

His injuries haven't come from contact. They could've happened while he was running sprints by himself at night
This. What an uninformed post

Didn't his injury happen on a TD pass when he stretched and screwed his knee in the endzone?

My favorite receiver. Just could not stay on the field.

Jimbo's offense is simply not WR3 or WR4 friendly. The volume isn't there.

only enough passes for the WR1 and WR2

If that

Sorry, but hate this free agency crap. I was really hoping Caleb was due a full season of ball for the Maroon. He was a great receiver when healthy.

Another year of starting over at receiver and qb.

Sort of. But Moose, Evan, Subzero, Yulkeith , plus rotate in Marshall and/or Price

That's the highest ceiling we'll have seen at WR for quite some time. No doubt about it.
Our WR room has had a "high ceiling" for 4+ years now.

Unfortunately, the elevator has been broken.

Chapman made some big plays for us and he was fun to watch play. I wish he stayed with our program. But he seems like a good dude and I wish him the best.

Also for Comparision

2013 qb....JFF
Last year...Calzada.

Also for comparison

2013: 8-4 with Manziel
2021: 8-4 with Calzada

Coaching matters... A lot.

Possibly the best way things had ever been put

or perhaps the schedule.

the worst of A&M's 4 losses in 2013 was against a 10-3 LSU team.

the 2021 team lost to a 6-7 LSU team and a 7-6 Mississippi State team...yeah, great coaching

Exactly. 2013 vs 2021 SOS = apples and oranges

2013: #2 (Auburn) #5 (Mizzou) #7 (Bama) #14 (LSU) - A&M #18
2021: #11 (MISS), #21 (ARK), NR, NR - A&M NR

But it looked so much cooler slinging it all over the field and running 125 plays per game on offense.

Defense matters. JFF put up 600 yards on bama and lost. Give 2013 last year's defense and we are undefeated.

And the best of A&M's wins in 2013 was a 7-6 Mississippi St team with Manziel as opposed to #1 Alabama with Calzada.

Yes...great coaching.

I didn't realize there were still people that existed who thought that Sumlin was in any way comparable to Jimbo.

And this situation is weird. When healthy, Chapman was the best WR the past 2 years. Nobody suddenly forgets how to play. Possibilities:

1. He transferred to avoid a medical retirement
2. His skills deteriorated during the recovery
3. He got passed up
4. Somewhere offered better NIL $

It has certainly been strange this offseason to see who is hitting the portal. It hasn't been the unknown names that haven't really seen the field yet, and instead has been the highly touted guys that haven't panned out yet (which we mostly assumed was due to injury). I am hopeful that these have largely been mutual decisions that represent a disconnect between fan expectations and realities inside the program.

I've never heard the Zoo described more accurately that that... a disconnect between fan expectations and the realities inside the program haha.

Chapman was among a couple others (Baylor Cupp, Luke Matthews) that after a period of time were just never going to play a major role in the program because they couldn't stay healthy. It's unfortunate but I am glad to see the kid have the courage to seek a fresh start and new opportunity somewhere else if he wants to give every effort to take his career to the next level. It sure beats accepting what was likely going to end up being reduced snaps and no quality film.

Good luck to him unless he plays against us.

Of note, according to the 2022 Working Roster Thread

https://texags.com/forums/5/topics/3254565

Three of the guys who haven't really seen the field are simply not on the Spring roster.

his injuries happen because his parents named him with annoying alliteration

ie see Hunter Henry, Evan Engram, Tyrod Taylor, Sterling Shepard, Jerry Jeudy, Julio Jones, Eric Ebron, Chris Carson, Marlon Mack, etc
